Rutherford NJ, Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train in Rutherford on Saturday morning. According to NJ TRANSIT the pedestrian was struck by a Bergen County Line No. 1854 train, which left Waldwick at 7:35 a.m. and was due to arrive in Hoboken at 8:20 a.m.

The incident occurred on the tracks at Park and East Erie Avenues . The victim was declared dead at the scene, according to a police scanner report. Rail service on NJ Transit’s Bergen line was temporarily suspended in both directions as the investigation got underway.
NJ TRANSIT police are investigating, assisted by various local and county agencies.
