Ramsey NJ, a 55 year old individual lost their life after being struck by a motor vehicle on Route 17 south near Ramsey Outdoor at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Friday, as reported by the Ramsey Police Department.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the victim, who remains unidentified, was endeavoring to cross the northbound lanes of Route 17 when a Honda CRV, traveling in the left lane, collided with them.

The incident resulted in the closure of both the north and southbound lanes of Route 17; however, normal traffic flow resumed on both sides around 9:30 a.m.

This unfortunate occurrence was part of a series of incidents on Route 17 that morning, leading to closures at different locations. These included a car crash near Saddle River, which brought down a pole and resulted in the closure of Route 17 in both directions. Additionally, a watermain break on Route 17 South in Carlstadt closed the shoulder and right lane.

Fortunately, there were no additional reported injuries in connection with these incidents.

  1. Do people try to cross Route 17 as if it were a regular street?

    1. Darwin ward

  2. Over the years, yes. People have crossed the roadway, which is very dangerous and a number of individuals have been killed. With the Giant 2 sided neon billboard proposed for Ridgewood right next to the Park and Ride bus stop, it is going to be even more dangerous with distracted drivers who are busy looking at this monstrosity and not the road. You can thank Gail Price for that.
