Ridgewood NJ, An adult female reported to be in her early 60’s was struck by a passenger vehicle as she crossed North Monroe Street, near North Hillside Place, in Ridgewood shortly after 7 PM on Friday, 09/25.
The victim reportedly sustained compound fractures to both of her legs. She was conscious and alert as Ridgewood EMS emergency medical technicians attended to her injuries. An ambulance transported the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus. No crosswalk was evident in the vicinity of the incident. Ridgewood PD is conducting an investigation.
 No summonses were immediately issued to the driver of the vehicle involved, who remained at the scene and was cooperating with police investigators.

  2. people need to look both ways be for crossing the road. you never just walk right into the road.

  3. There isn’t a crosswalk between Glen and West Ridgewood across North Monroe, is there? How does one safely cross the street if one is a slow walker? Same problem with Glen between Maple and Monroe.

  4. yes. There is a cross walk at north hillside to cross Monroe. I walked by the accident and it did not occur in the crosswalk. There is a street light either out or always off right there and it is very very dark at night.

  5. Strict enforcement of speeding could be of help.

  6. Would a flashing yellow light at that crosswalk be out of the question? Maybe one that only flashes when a pedestrian needs to cross the street? Many mororists, this commenter included, drive through that crosswalk at speed, not realizing that it is even there.
