NEWARK, NJ — A Bergen County woman is facing severe federal prison time after law enforcement raided a local hotel room, uncovering a significant stash of crystal methamphetamine and distribution paraphernalia.
U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced today that Brittany Malsch, 38, of Garfield, New Jersey, has been charged by federal complaint with possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine.
Following her initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Jessica S. Allen in Newark federal court, Malsch was remanded into federal custody.
From Surveillance to Search Warrant: Inside the Investigation
According to court documents and statements made in federal court, the joint investigation into Malsch’s activities began at least as early as December 2025.
Federal task force officers and local police began monitoring Malsch under suspicion that she was actively distributing methamphetamine out of a hotel room located in Fairfield, New Jersey.
After confirming her residency in the hotel, law enforcement obtained and executed a judicially authorized search warrant for her room. Inside, officers discovered:
-
Multiple bags containing suspected crystal methamphetamine.
-
Varying types of drug paraphernalia, including packaging and distribution materials.
-
Approximately $1,720.00 in cash.
Facing a Minimum of 10 Years to Life in Federal Prison
The federal charges Malsch faces carry exceptionally harsh statutory penalties. A conviction for possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine carries:
-
A mandatory minimum statutory term of 10 years in prison.
-
A potential maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
-
A maximum potential fine of up to $10 million.
U.S. Attorney Frazer credited the successful operation to the collaborative efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) task force officers, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Towanda R. Thorne-James, and the Fairfield Police Department, led by Chief Anthony G. Manna.
The government’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Isen Kang of the General Crimes Unit in Newark.
