Reader asks Do you really think handouts work well for the poor?

Phill Murphy -Sara Medina del Castillo

You say: “That is not why I voted for him though. I am always willing to pay a little more as long as there are children in this state going to bed hungry every night.” You either are joking or are super naive. How is Murphy better than Guadagno or Christie with regards to poverty? Do you really think handouts work well for the poor? You have never tasted socialism. I come from such a country and it sucks, BADLY. I hope you or your kids don’t get to see it for yourself. You can’t erase poverty by forcefully taking $$ from one side and giving it to the poorer side. Doesn’t work. It only makes it worse for both sides and in the end nobody is better off. By the time you realize it didn’t work all has gone to ruins. To me it seems like people are bored with what they have and want to experiment. Good luck with that.

  1. “You have never tasted socialism”. If you’ve ever collected a social security check, benefited from medicare, sent your child to a public school, or gone the library you have tasted socialism. America ~loves~ socialism, it just won’t admit it.

    1. lol we pay for social security , the only way its socialistic is we pay far more than we get out of it and public libraries in the US were founded by private money ,ie the Carnegie Foundation and the Peas Library

  2. We live in a state that has given billions of dollars in corporate welfare, in the form of tax breaks, to companies that were supposed to “bring jobs” to New Jersey. Those jobs have not appeared, and despite the promises of Governor Christie, those tax breaks have not disappeared either.

Services throughout the state have suffered as a result of tax give-aways to large corporations who donated heavily to the governor and received massive tax breaks for services never performed.

Why is that so many Republicans support corporate welfare, especially when it can be shown to have no benefits to the people of the state, while opposing aid to individuals, individuals who spend that money in the state, creating an economic multiplier by quickly recirculating that money. Much of that money has been used to pay for education to improve the lives and incomes of residents or their children.

Why shouldn’t we invest in people? The payoff in lower crime and higher income is real, unlike the phantom jobs from corporate welfare.

    1. corporate givaways have been going on for years because no business wants to be in New Jersey, the state budget in New Jersey is huge , yet the roads are terrible , schools mediocre , water is bad , quality of life sucks , all your sanctuary city have huge crime rates , frankly if it wasn’t for the jobs in NYC and Philly the whole state would collapse
