How is the Ridgewood policy different from Paramus?
Could we hire a 77 yr. old man who had multiple infractions and suspensions??
Paramus was dup’d by the system, they never would have hired the driver if they had known his record.
Additionally, at what age is it too old to drive a school bus ?…..that is a hard question to answer, but should be looked at.

  1. I don’t think the situation has changed much from years ago when a driver was yelling at the kids in the back of the bus and neglected to realize he’d let our daughter off the bus. He slammed the door and drove off, scraping her leg in the process. (The only reason she wasn’t seriously hurt or dragged was her quick reactions. She leaped off the bus steps and managed to only be sideswiped by the bus. If she had been wearing a skirt, the damage would have been quite serious) The reason I’m telling this long winded story is we went to the Administration and instead of firing the driver they begged us not to register an official complaint. They would put him on a bus with only younger children (the current was Jr high and High school mixed and he couldn’t handle the older kids) if we’d please retract our complaint.
Their quote “Bus drivers are so hard to find.” So, could we hire a 77 year old driver? We could if we were told his record was clear and he was licensed to drive a bus with passengers.”

  2. Are you kidding me that’s ridiculous you should’ve called the police department made a report. No excuse on the board of ad than are you kidding me that’s ridiculous you should’ve called the police department made report. No excuse on the board of ed.Some of these bus drivers they scare me

  3. Many stories like the above. When we privatized our busing many years ago, we knew we lost ultimate control and so a specific person at cottage Place was hired/paid to deal with complaints. In many instances the onus was on the parent to document and regularly voice dissatisfaction and to speak out at Board meetings. We privatized because it was cheaper as we no longer would be paying benefits to the drivers, etc. 200 people showed up to one Board meeting to keep our bus drivers. I was there.

  4. Every business outsources. Do you really think that companies do not hold their partners accountable? Do you really believe you cannot find qualified drivers? I would be more upset that our town representatives were not held accountable. Fire one for failure to protect our interests and behavior would change. PS: maybe UBER could handle this for us?

  5. I found that making a complaint to the “bus handler” when the buses were privatized actually worked. I was almost hit by a bus from BF rounding the corner I was crossing(Meadowbrook/Fairfield) so he could cut down to Glen to miss the traffic and lights on Linwood. Several buses took this route which meant they were squeezing between the cars parked on both sides of Fairfield, which anyone near Travell at school start and ending times knows is almost impossible even for a car. The “bus handler” had not known that they were taking this extremely unsafe route and they have had to use Linwood ever since.
