Reader asks Why do we the taxpayers of Ridgewood have to pay for an even better library when more than 50% of the patrons are from other towns?

I am at the library weekly, I love reading real hold in my hands books. The library is a great place to learn, to meet, to expose oneself to new ideas. However, I would like to see a study done about who is actually using the Ridgewood library. I rarely see my neighbors or friends there. Instead I see tutors, I see NY license plates, I see cars with parking stickers from towns in southern bergen county. You see, we have the nicest library in bergen county, we have the only library in bergen county that is open on Sundays in the summer! Why oh Why do we the taxpayers of Ridgewood have to pay for an even better library when more than 50% of the patrons are from other towns? Other than bragging rights or simply because “it’s ridgewood”, there is no reason for the taxpayers of Ridgewood to foot the bill so that the rest of BCCLS can benefit.

  1. So there is no proof that 50% are from out of town. so your title is fake news

  2. Build a wall

  3. Library and garage will be funded by Ridgewood tax payer generosity.

  4. town continues to express completely opposite Priorities with our taxpayer funded obligation .

No we are not village idiots and can clearly see what is trying to be hoisted apon us the Taxpayers.Recall process should start now

  5. The Ramsey Library is open on Sundays in the summer from noon to 4 PM.

  6. Actually it took all of 30 seconds to look up the hours of Bergen County Libraries. At quick glance the following are open on Sundays: Teaneck, Harrington Park, Westwood, Paramus, Ramsey & North Bergen. The tutors are there in a program the library started and pay an hourly fee to tutor students (who most likely are Ridgewood students) to the library. The comment that over 50% of the patrons are from out of town conflicts with an earlier one suggestion they conduct a survey to see who is using the library.

Information technology is rapidly changing and if libraries are to remain relevant and useful they need to adapt and change with the times. Whether or not a performance venue is desirable or needed is a valid question but I would need more information, such as the cost and what programming is planned before forming an opinion.

    .
BECAUSE WE ARE RICH AND STUPID
    .
How many times do I have to tell you people this?
    .

  8. Follow the money people. Look at key library trustees in recent years: a high-density housing developer and vocal backers of high density and the hospital rebuild. The library trustees and board are at the core of the overdevelopment of Ridgewood and the library is a microcosm of their plan. Oh, and surprise, Jeff V. is involved and he can’t stop licking their boots.

: has correctly zeroed into the taking of our village ; yes the homeowners and long term renters and taxpayers ..

They will all move on ( including Realtors ) with the exploitation of RIDGEWOOD as a badge of dishonor that they will proudly place on their resumes as they que up the next ship of sleepy town fools .. excessive trust and good will after the election banners come down is a mistake we made and will pay for dearly .
