Reader asks why No Passive Park Space in Ridgewood ?

Habernickel Family Park

I have driven by there many times and have seen even the passive field being used for sports. Why can’t there ever be a place that is passive around here. I feel for those folks who live there. Soccer, baseball, lacrosse on the passive side all the while a for profit business with camps, fueled trips and busses!!! I had to pass a chartered bus once parked hillcrest rd!! These folks don’t get a break. Why can’t there be a place for us seniors or childless people to sit in a park and relax. I thought passive meant passive. Especially when there are sport fields 100 feet away. Wake up Ridgewood. That’s why us seniors are moving away!!!!

  1. Schedler seems pretty passive right now. Spending a few million bucks of your neighbors’ money on that not enough?

  2. There are 10 public areas, and the five listed below are ENTIRELY passive. The other 5 have combination active/passive.

    Grove Park (32 acres)
    Kings Pond/Gypsy Pond (11 acres)
    North Road (2.5 acres)
    Twinney Pond(4 acres)
Dunham Trail (1/4 mile straight path)

  3. Schlinder hasn’t been developed yet. This would be a great place to have a passive park.

  4. Thank you Ellie and Ridgeowod Wildscape.

  5. We have the parks but they are underutilized. We can’t expect a large greenspace in the middle of town. Ridgewood is built-out. Enjoy what you have or go to the county bike path.

Don’t expect the town to create a park for passive, except for Schindler there is no place for one.

  6. Leuning Park is another one

  7. How many of these are on the west side????
