Reader explains why Ken Gabbert was removed
Gabbert was in over his head and had no clue as to civil service procedure.
If he sought legal advice and was misinformed, the labor attorney should go as well. Gabbert was the last choice of the council at that time, and his initial salary was lowballed with a promise of a good pay raise if things went well.
He is well connected in the republican party which put him at odds with Paul Aronsohn.
It is well known that Keith Killion lost the election because of Gabberts pay raise, if Tom Richie was up for election he would have been sent packing as well.
So know Gabbert had no skirt to hide behind ( so to speak). Lets face it you get what you pay for, he was a bargain basement administrator, and he did a bargain basement job, for a bargain basement salary.
Do we really need to continue insulting this man. He lost his job.
Sorry, but i do agree he was worthless. Its important because we need to speak out about the next selection.
We also need to recognize when we look at Gabbert that we have made mistakes across the board — our present Mayor and others on the council are continuing evidence of this. We should not be so slow to action in removing them or at least neutralizing their ability to destroy the Village.
You only had to work under the man for the last 4 years to know him. Highly unapproachable, hidden on the third floor, and ruling with fear.
These type of people never last long, and promote a virus to the good people who work in Village Hall.

Ken Gabbert was a fine village manager and was very hard working. Unfortunately he worked for an idiot mayor who did not want to keep him. It is a great loss for Ridgewood.
Glad to see him gone, at best he was mediocre.

he started in the low 160’s but for a town the size of rwd the other candidates wanted more than 185 and got and we got gabbert
