Reader Questions BOE judgement on delayed opening ,school closed flip
Why would the BOE call for a delayed opening when the Village OEM has made the following statement of the Village facebook page :
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area from midnight tonight through 6 pm Wednesday.
We are expecting 4-8 inches of heavy, wet snow, and up to 1/3 inch of ice. Heavy snow and ice creates a significant risk of downed trees and power lines, and potential power outages. Prepare now for possible loss of power.
Due to a severe state-wide shortage of road salt, we cannot guarantee enough salt to treat secondary roads. Our priorities are the major arteries, and those roads leading to Valley Hospital. Therefore, we anticipate extremely hazardous driving conditions on most village streets.
The Office of Emergency Management urges all residents to stay off the roads tomorrow for your own safety. If possible, do not drive, stay indoors, and stay away from downed trees and power lines.
The Left hand didn’t talk to the Right hand….
Both organizations looked stupid there….
They were being cautious. They would be criticized mo matter what they did. There is always someone who is unhappy.
I think, over all, Fishbein does a pretty good job deciding on school openings/closings. It took us four hours to dig out our driveway yesterday as the snow was so heavy. My kids could have walked to school but they would have been walking through the snow and ice and not a single one of my neighbors was dug out by 10am.
Bigger question . . .when are the plows going to stop putting the snow on corners where kids have to cross to get to school. Pleasant and Ridgewood near Somerville was a disaster.
I was thinking the exact same thing when they called with the delayed opening!

This was the 4th storm and the 3rd time he changed his mind about what to call it
The precious kids can’t walk to school in the snow… they might have too much fun.
They made a cautious decision. Delay opening the night before and reevaluate in the morning when they can check conditions on the ground.
Was this a problem for someone?
In this town every thing is a problem for the prima donnas.
You’re right jjj! The snow days are piling up so obviously the CSA does not want to make a premature decision. The storms are the inconvenience….not the decision making process for closing or delayed openings.
