Reader Questions ‘Mutual Aid”

ridgewood_fire_department_theridgewoodblog

“And as ALWAYS the Ridgewood FD is there fighting the fire because we have a paid FD that is always on duty and all the surrounding towns get by with volunteers (when any are available). Now I am not saying that we shouldn’t help our neighbors, but come on people. We pay dearly for the privlege of having a fully paid fire department, which is an awesome benefit to living in this town. Why can’t our neighbors do the same?”

  1. Do you think that Ridgewood handles their fires exclusively without mutual aid? Do you know what a FAST team is?

  2. Moron….

You’d want trucks from 6 counties there if it was your house on fire.

  3. So why don’t the other towns have paid fire departments?

  4. So of course everyone should help everyone in a crisis. I agree. But I am guessing from this that Ridgewood provides way more than it receives?

  5. Look into the total cost of having a paid fire dept add it all up vacations pensions medical insurance. All the surrounding towns have equipment to do the same job as Ridgewood and help each other out. If Ridgewood gets a bad fire these other towns help out also.

  6. Look at the response time of the volunteer Fire Dept and compare it to a paid Fire Dept. Poster always complain about the pensions and medical cost but the don’t say a word about the BOED which take up 2/3 of their tax bill. Why is that ?

  7. Here you go. stop complaining and sign up if you qualify. Just remember this section.

  8. I think the surrounding towns like glen rock and hohokus should go in with Ridgewood on a paid fire department that we all share

  9. I think every single town should have at least a couple paid EMT/fire personnel. It’s a good thing. Even a small town can afford to at least have a few members paid .They should’ve thought about this 20 years ago is that keep on giving big money to police.

  10. police fire first everything else can wait. Fellow residents don’t complain about any other kind of service because Val troll doesn’t give two shits about us. It’s about first responders first which I do understand to a point, but we are paying taxes for services and we just cannot get all the services because all the other departments are short and staff. That is the fax that’s the truth no bullshit end of the story. Unless you call the drywall or the mayor and council and they will give you another story which will be bullshit. So Thank you to my fellow residents and a happy new year and happy Kwanzaa.

  11. Since we have the police and fire departments at full staffing in and they are on call 24 seven around the clock, I don’t see why we cannot utilize them in other departments that are short on staff. They’re being paid by the taxpayers to work for the village. . What are the police and fire doing when there’s nothing going on between calls. So if there are no calls between 1:00 AM to 5 AM what are they doing. Are they washing cars trucks. Or are they just hanging around watching TV. Huh!

  12. Taxpayers are curious ??? Sure lets have police and fire pick up leaves and your garbage that make sense . WOW

  13. Well Do something, this is not n y city that there is a lot going on at 1am to 6 am . Ok then clean the patrol cars , or you can’t do that because you’re my dirty the uniform.
    Haha haha,

  14. Please stop why don’t you follow your own suggestion and clean you room in your mother basement.

  15. Ok I’m going to SPEAK ENGLISH here so pay attention.
Every other town surrounding us has volunteer departments and do absolutely fine. Ridgewood’s overpaid/over pensioned FD is patently absurd. Saving basements and dousing flaming Porsche’s does not justify 100K a year and 20 and out.
The people’s coalition of a sound Ridgewood will launch in the new year with leaders prepared to take control from the corruption that permeates village hall…I suggest that you govern yourselves accordingly.

  16. I love all this.

  17. All of the long time residents appreciate the prompt response of a paid Fire department. The first few minutes mean the difference between life, death, and control of a fire.
The ones who bitch about it are the new residents whose children milk the rest of us with the over-expensive school taxes.
Keep pissing off the empty nesters. when we leave families with kids will move in, and your kids will go on split sessions and your taxes will double
be careful what you wish for

  18. Every town should have a few full-time first responders EMS/firemen. We are great we can definitely save a life. And we all know that every town in Bergen County can afford a few.

  19. Some dummy said…….

Every other town surrounding us has volunteer departments and do absolutely fine. Ridgewood’s overpaid/over pensioned FD is patently absurd.

So dummy, the answer to your problem is move to one of the other surrounding towns if you don’t want a paid fire department moron. I happen to appreciate, support and want a paid fire department.
