Reader says ,Without the blog there is political retribution. Several residents have been TARGETED with tickets, summonses, investigations, and more because they spoke out at meetings or on facebook. On the blog you can speak your piece without fear of retaliation from Aronsohn-Pucciarelli-Hauck-Sonenfeld. Of course they try like hell to guess who the anonymous posters are, but they are never sure. And of course the four of them post often, and we can always identify them.
Since so many have felt the sting of political retribution perhaps its time to share the pain ?
Reader says , “I’m boycotting our central business district over these stupid signs and the chamber of commerce.village is a mess and I refuse to support them any longer”
Since so many have been targeted ,some think its time to target back by Boycotting “Its Greek to Me” . While some readers think “Boycotting Its Greek to Me won’t do anyone any good. It won’t change the minds of people, it won’t stop Paul from living his everyday life. That is beyond childish. If you want to speak up and say something go to the village hall meetings, ask questions, get involved. And PLEASE make your OWN decisions. Stop listening to articles that don’t have the best interest for the reader nor the actual people involved.”
while others say, ” Boycotting the Greek place is easy for the simple reason that the food is certainly nothing to write home about, As for the rest of the CBD, more than 50% of the time it looks like it’s already being boycotted, so you probably won’t even see much of a difference if people did. But moving a few homeless folks into the garage should help with that issue.
Wake up, Ridgewood ! These clowns, just like those at Valley, are nothing more than opportunists trying to capitalize on fulfilling their business fantasies at the expense of an entire town. The very least one could do is get out there and vote against people who are going out of their way to wreck the great things Ridgewood has going for it.”
Others say “No boycotting just don’t go, period. Let the council know that you are not going to spend your money in a town where your concerns are not being addressed. The out of town people will have to subsidize the CBD.
No signs, no formal making a scene. Just stop going. And let the council know through e-mails why and how you feel.
Money always talks.”
That wall drives me crazy. It is ugly and built on Village property.
Why hasn’t the Village manager ticketed the establishment.
Send the new enforcement employee over there. This is worse than leaves in the roads.
I have never seen a town that hates its small business owners and Chamber of Commerce like this one. Every Presidential candidate talks about “Main Street” over “Wall Street” but here at home there is so much vitriol towards Main Street. Every Chamber of Commerce advocates for its members. Why is this so different?
9:13 because in Ridgewood, the Chamber of Commerce is taken over by politicians. Those representing the chamber don’t have to worry about commerce at their business. They have made their money and are now focused on the real estate flipping game.
Because the chamber has been taken over by a few owners who seek benefit at our expense. There is no partnership.
Anyone who would like to challenge Weitz, Willett and Brooks on any or all issues should make themselves known at Park West Tavern tonight, 7PM. There is a Happy Hour sponsored by Progress Ridgewood. Maybe you’ll get a free beer and a handful of nachos for your troubles.
Yo can’t buy my vote with a free beer and nachos. Just goes to show you the mine set of these people. (Happy Hour sponsored by Progress Ridgewood)
10:47 – What do I have to sign to get in?
Maybe if you vote for the above you get free Gyro. Proof of vote required.
(Happy Hour sponsored by Progress Ridgewood) Maybe someone should check the liquor law and insurance requirement on this.
I don’t know, 11:27, and I won’t find out. I’m voting against that team. Too much money behind them for them to be any good for the masses in town.
Anyway, here are the bullet points that came with the invite. Go out and challenge them.
Each of these experts can bring financial, legal and communication skills to Ridgewood’s Village Council.
They will be the most thoughtful stewards of your tax dollars.
They can successfully negotiate necessary compromises.
They are constructive, not de-constructive.
They epitomize character.
Are You Serving Alcohol
at Your Fundraising Event?
by Deane Brengle
Serving alcohol at a fundraising event is not an unusual occurrence. Many nonprofits engage in this practice for a variety of reasons. Some encourage it thinking that a donor may feel more inclined to give generously if they are “feeling good”. Others think that they won’t get as many attendees if alcohol isn’t served.
No matter what the reason, if you’re serving alcohol at your fundraising events don’t do it without careful forethought!
These days more and more event hosts are being held accountable for the actions of their guests after they leave the event. Both civil and criminal court cases have reached an all time high recently. You can and will be held responsible for injuries and damages that occur as the result of the alcohol you serve during your event to your guests. The smart host of a fundraising event serving alcohol covers all their bases before there is a problem.
James….according to your legal definition, this would be considered “tortious interference”. Seems to be a bit hypocritical now doesn’t it??
Let them serve booze. They have the uber smart attorney Gail Price Brooks overseeing all this illegality. hope everyone gets stinking drunk and the cops are called.
Personally, I would not lower myself to drinking their free beer. It would make me feel like Louie at that last scene of Casablanca where he looks down and sees that he has been drinking Vichy water and he tosses it out in disgust.
Tonight’s event was the set up they tried – – the “debate” where you had to pledge allegiance to the developers – – let it be poorly attended. they are trying to whitewash the fact these candidates are for massive overbuilding in our downtown. Their party line at the public debate was “call me an optimist, I am sure the developers will do just fine” and “bring on those additional school children to our overcrowded schools.”
You know how they separate the men from the boys in Greece?
Wi th a crowbar.
I feel the village citizens are viewed as the boy here
Why does Paul have sandbags in front of his greasy spoon..?
The Chamber members on the west side of the tracks that I have talked to do NOT support the garage. They are staying quiet but not at all happy with the political minions now running the chamber.
Walk around town and ask the small-business owners how they feel about all of this. Every one I have spoken with has been against the garage, against the housing. I asked if they had ever been asked for their views by the C. of C. and they said no. They have a president but are not represented. Also note that the council’s liaison to the Chamber has been the same for a loooong time. Guess who.
Why is Paul allowed those concrete planters ?
I am not 11:18 but would like to expand on those comments. I have heard they are not as much against a garage, they are against the necessary increase in rates that must accompany (pay for) the garage. They recall the negative effect on business the last time rates were increased. Additionally, they realize street spaces will be lost and feel that most likely commuters will use the garage.
