Does anyone thinks it’s a coincidence the human resource and village manager are both from Bergen leads and this residency requirement is being changed when the hr person isn’t from ridgewood. Old friends from the bergen county program . Ridgewood owes a debt of gratitude to councilwoman knudsen for standing up for ridgewood residents when aronsohn, pucc and hack don’t care about the people they represent. What’s wrong there’s no one from ridgewood to fill these jobs.
Regardless of what the law might become, the fact is that these people are not willing to hire anyone now under the current law. That is outrageous. Holding off on hiring until they can change the law. Sounds like a massive lawsuit to me.
Sadly a lot of voices will be raised before this issue comes to a conclusion.
The problem is that the cost of living in Ridgewood is so high that it would be hard to find people in town at that level who are also good at what they do.
I would love that all the cops, firemen and village employees be able to live here, in fact I would love for that to be a hiring restriction, but it’s not economically viable – no more so than it would be economically viable for the gated communities in South Africa to be policed by their own residents. Apologies for the start parallel, but that’s where we’re heading as a country.
South Africa you must be kidding!
There is no rational justification for extending preferences to Bergen County residents other than that it facilitates the management of a county-wide network of patronage. It is transparently political and is a bad idea for any community but especially one like Ridgewood with a non-partisan governmental structure.
Yes so we can hire all those hudson county crooks
10:01am, no offense, but none of what you said seems to relate to the issue at hand. We are trying to decide whether we should change the law to give village managers the freedom, when deciding who to hire for a given non-police, non-fire department job, to discriminate against ALL Ridgewood-residing applicants in favor of a non-resident as long as nobody who lives Ridgewood can lay claim to being BETTER qualified than the favored non-resident. 11:53am has divined and articulated the purpose of the Three Amigos’ scheme–it is intended to draw Ridgewood’s lower-level municipal positions into a County-wide political patronage system via an end run around the Faulkner Act.
We need to reject this proposal in no uncertain terms. This starts tonight with a big turnout of Ridgewood residents of all types, shapes and sizes willing to speak out against the notion of holding a second vote on the proposed change in the law based on the clear illegality associated with the first vote. The argument is that the first vote, having been illegal, must be considered as having never happened in the first place, such that any so-called ‘second vote’ tonight would naturally be of no force or effect. Assuming the Three Amigos ignore the clearly articulated desires of the electorate and conduct the so-called ‘second vote’, they need to have the clear message sent to them that not only will this new law be overturned as illegitimate, they themselves will suffer severe electoral consequences for this blatant insult to Ridgewood Residents and our system of local government.
No place is given in Ridgewood for partisan politics or patronage and we need to make sure the Three Amigos are told that in no uncertain terms.
Well we don’t have to worry about any of the 3 amigos kids. They probably think its below them to have their kids to work as Village employees
yea thats so true.
