“Even the architects of the garage said that the facility will not pay for itself so the Village would have to raise both street and lot parking substantially to help meet its costs. They also said that the lifetime of the garage would be 20 years as long as it was maintained regularly. Does this kind of attitude cause a huge smell wafting over it? This, along with all the NOT “needed’ other projections the Council and School Board think are VITAL will bankrupt the Village even before the economy starts turning down.
The aroma of “accidental misstatements–and outright lies by the builders throughout town” must smell like quality perfume to our “Movers and Shakers” as they will be surrounded by it for years unless they conveniently “move out” once they’ve shaken the town for all their personal needs as well.”
And this is news? Many have voiced that conclusion years ago. Believing anything that comes out of the mouth of the Village’s CFO is folly.
To those who see the garage as a good thing, enjoy. You got what you wanted now pay for it. For me? I am moving out.
The garage has always been for the apartment dwellers and the apartments have always been for families with children who intend to attend our public schools.
leaving Ridgewood… and so should you
I got out last year, and even that was probably a year too late. The market had definitely been softening. I think that if you plan to sell up now, you might be a little disappointed in the demand and might feel a little sick at some of the low-ball offers.
Ridgewood is not the sellers market it once was.
We should cut our losses now sell the dam site
you are missing the point that this garage was so much smaller than the developer wanted, with more debt piled up. At least this council did their best…. but as long as the store owners do NOT clamp down on employees’ parking right next to the store, we will always have problems. we will still have problems with the stores below Oak, the employees will not want to walk! Recall the council gave low cost parking on Cottage and almost none took advantage. I will bet those posters above were fans of the larger garage, anyway. Yes, the larger garage was for the apartments, so we should be happy not to have that one!
Predicted in the Walker Report.
Everyone that voted for the garage should happily pay the higher rates.
After all, that’s what you voted for.
Thanks Paul Aronsohn!
To my fellow residents what the hell is going to happen another 3 to 5 years in the village of Ridgewood with all this expense. The services are not the same they are dwindling little by little. All village departments are short on staffing. Yes we have great school system great police fire EMTs sanitation recycling do a great job but come on, the village Ridgewood It’s not what are used to be. It’s no more Village it’s turning into a city
(When it wasn’t being stolen,) revenue from parking meters was dedicated to various village expenses. Now it will all go to garage debt.
Yes so true.
We got ahead of our clear built in limitations. It’s a village not the nation of Morristown strivers..the price will be high…Strap in folks ..
