Reader says in the New Ridgewood Stores Will Have to Be Open Much Later to Accommodate NYC Commuters

“People just remember the last recession the villager Ridgewood was it goes down. Meaning we had around 70 stores fronts were empty. And do you know probably a good eight of them were never felt because the rent is so high. Luckily the landlord had insurance. The landlords now are relying on  some new stores coming into the CBD within the end of this year they’re just waiting for the housing apartments to be done. It may help we’ll see. It all depends on what kind of clientele. And if they have New York City money while they  wouldn’t want those stores to be open later just like Matt. They cannot be closing at 6 o’clock, because most of these people will be getting off the train around seven. And then then when he dinner figure it out. Ordinance will have to be changed to survive it’s the only way. The mayor and council are building a small New York City they want my hat and money well guess what people things will be changing throughout the CBD  to survive.  All these people getting off the drains they need to go somewhere and eat, but not going to that shit hole Stop & Shop to pick up food and start cooking it’s not happening we’re in a different world people wake up take a ride to New York City at a weeknight at 10 o’clock people are eating dinner in the restaurant at bat it’s a new generation.  Just like the Bergen county Boulevard it’s time for a change they should allow the stores to open up on a Sunday we are losing so much money on a Sunday to all the locations. Bergen County is becoming Manhattan like it or not. Can you imagine owning a business on route 17 or route four and you’re not allowed to open up on a Sunday to make money, and you’re losing 30% off of your business on a Sunday to all the locations because you’re not open. There’s no business on a Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday now. If not then I’ll just order it online and have a delivery service in front your house at 10 o’clock at night oh yes.”

  1. There are No stores really. It’s mostly restaurants, banks and nail salons. Rugs and fancy plates and jeans will not make a commuter stop to shop they just want to get home. And shopping means they need to walk… Which we know they don’t like, ie the garage.

  2. NYC commuters get home late after a very long day, and the last thing they have on their minds is going shopping.

  3. That’s not true. We need to try it before making and assumption. Some stores it will work so I’m not. Definitely anything related to food entertainment relaxation stress specialty shops would work I’m not talking about a mattress store or lighting store. Take a right into man and see what stores are open late it’s a simple as that. We don’t even have a 24 hour pharmaceutical Store in town that’s a joke. Can you imagine being a commuter living at one of these new locations in town they were lying on mass transit and they need to go to a doctor and pick up medicine and they don’t have a car and there’s no CVS open 24 hours in the Village of Ridgewood I would have to drive to fair lawn or Waldwick that’s ridiculous time to get with the times. Most of these people will not have a car. I leave Valley Hospital emergency room with a medication slip and I have to drive to fair lawn or Waldwick unacceptable.

  4. But Ridiculous

Good points but this is POTTERVILLE
    NOW

    Look it up

It aint a wonderful life in ridgewood

They sold us down the river

    A DISGRACE IN FACT

  5. Walgreens on Crescent in Waldwick is open 24 hours in case of the 3 AM munchies after inhaling some soon-to-be-legal pot…BUT the pharmacy is NOT. (I think it used to be.) Have to go to CVS in Wyckoff for that, if they’re even still doing it. Get your medicine before 9 (or 6 on Sundays).

  6. It never ceases to amaze me how much space this blog is willing to devote to the illiterate rants of clueless people. If Ridgewood is truly doomed it’s because the original poster votes.

  7. It’s going to be interesting down this road.

  8. If you’ve never lived the life of a NYC commuter, you would not understand. We work long hours. We leave early each morning and we get home late. We have a tiny window of time to see our loved ones and that’s usually spent over a late dinner. To think that opening stores late has the slightest interest to us is nonsense. Hello. We work in NYC. If there’s anything we need, we can get it while we’re in NYC.

Did the writer of this piece really think this through?

  9. Oh yes my little train rider .
Me or partner don’t cook . So we like shop late and eat and have sex.

  10. NoWalking a side I think some kind of late night coffee shop With light dinners snacks sandwiches would work.Just thinking What would work to accommodate all these new single people moving in . Just thinking of some kind of service to open up that would work.

  11. these idiot businesses can’t stay open on most nights… even when there are evening events in town.
    .
You are delusional if you think that they will all of a sudden stay open late to accommodate “NYC commmuters” (a population that we have had since the first house was built in Ridgewood.
    .

  12. Oh Vey is absolutely correct.
The illiterate blather that was posted amazed me…
WTF did it even get reposted here?
Is traffic that slow that we need to listen to the drivel of a 4 year old?
    Please…..

  13. ROADS are starched dogfood already
Now Pseg Subs are dynamiting the
Side streets off the main avenues and
very little follow up on required second paving or chain gang hot ashalt teams to top off the rutted
    Secondary roads example Stop Shop
side street to from Linwood approaches .

Light winter No excuse PSEG :/county
    Surface gangs

  14. This is the best. Talk about Staring the pot. Well it shows that people are lazy they don’t want to stay open for business. Half of these businesses are all bullshit anyway it’s something for the wives to do, right, they open up at 10 they close at 54 days a week some of them don’t even give two shits if they make any money. Half of it so much bull shit.

  15. If nothing stays open late we are always people going to go to get the things they need. If they’re getting off the train late and 95% of the stores are closed are they going to rely on delivery service. It’s going to be impossible for them to get their daily things they need done on a Saturday. Because stupid Blue laws keep the stores closed on a Sunday. It’s very interesting that the Dodge controlled New York City at one time and yet the stores Robyn the Sunday but in Bergen County their shot very interesting. Hypocrites . Oh vey bull shit
