I wish people would take photos of parking spaces all over town on different days of the week, ordinary and holiday, and at different times to show in aggregate that parking IS AVAILABLE. A large number of photos documented at various times and days of the week would tell the story. Walking a couple of blocks is good for your health! And unless you’re going to a Hudson St. or S. Broad Street venue, you’ll walk a couple of blocks (or much more) from the garage anyway. Please VOTE NO on June 21 and get an absentee ballot if you can’t.

I can’t help but think a lot of the pro parking garage noise came from certain restaurateurs. I imagine diners having dinner at their “regular” restaurants and the owner does his meet-and-greet walk-through. He see his regular customer and say,”Hi. Where have you two been? I haven’t seen for for some time”.
Now the diners are sort of regular, and instead of admitting that their lack of attendance is mostly about cutting back on dining expenses, they save face by saying, “We have tried to get in here every week but we can never find a parking place. We had to head over to Ho-Ho-Kus.”
The restaurant bosses hear this so often that they not only believe it, but it’s in their interests to believe it. Most of them don’t live in Ridgewood, so costs of a garage are irrelevant.
Great idea. We all see it day after day..it’s Friday and Saturday nights when the out of TOWNERS invade which is fine ; but don’t ask us Ridgewood folks to float an 11 m fiasco to deal with your frustrated arrival tee times and you feel it’s too late to look for a parking spot..then valet. Those kids need the tips
Drove into town, parked the car, walked past Fish and had lunch at an Italian restaurant. Beautiful day.
No problem parking in spite of the fact that police and fire were diverting cars from Broad, Dunkin Doughnut side. Some emergency. No impact on parking on a beautiful day.
I came up with a idea that may work, we need to try this out, have out of towner’s and village residences come and park at village hall on thursday, friday, and saturday for free or a charge of 2bucks a car. the hr’s from 6pm to 10pm. and we have a shuttle that we can use to take people back and forth to the c b d, we have village workers with a c d l may like to work a few extra hr’s. we the right lighted signs that we can park at the right places like at the intersection on brod av and franklin av informing drivers to park at village hall, if this works u know what kind of money the village can save, I think this just be the thing for the town. i don’t think any town around us do this. people just think about it, we can try it a couple of times in the summer, I even think we should shut down ridgewood av on a few saturdays at night in the summer, we can make it family night, this is good p r work. not bad right, I just pulled this out of my hat.
The aforementioned absence of parking demand serves to validate how much the downtown has declined and businesses are struggling to survive. Lack of cars = lack of customers. While many residents do not seem concerned over the possible demise of the CBD the fact is it WILL have a negative impact the value of their homes. Houses in Ridgewood have traditionally garnered a premium over comparable houses in other towns. The question is why. The answer is quite simple. Ridgewood has a wide variety of homes at varying price points in different neighborhoods all of which share a legendary school system and offer a convenient commute to NYC. While there are other affluent towns in Bergen County which offer similar attractions Ridgewood is unique in that has all of the foregoing PLUS it has traditionally been home to a lively and walkable downtown with a wide variety of shops and restaurants This “trilogy” has proven to be highly successful in attracting newcomers to the Village who are willing and able to pay a premium for their homes. The question is what happens if this highly successful formula were to disappear ? It is the opinion of the writer that the premium assigned by the market to houses in Ridgewood would gradually diminish and ultimately disappear. We would be just another affluent town in Bergen County that has nice neighborhoods and good schools. I say let’s keep what makes Ridgewood special. Let’s undertake to revitalize our downtown by building a garage …..albeit one that may be a little smaller. Let’s then work together to figure out a long term strategy that builds on our strengths and augments them so as to maintain our premier status as the town that “has it all”. Just my thoughts.
Maybe the CBD is less busy because it’s in secular decline, just like our schools? Ridgewood isn’t what it was in the 1980s and 90s, and the failure to evolve is a genuine concern.
You overstate the value of the CBD. It is nonresidents who benefit from the CBD.
It does nothing for me.
Wrong cause and effect. Sure, we want downtown to thrive. We need a wider variety of shops. Even if all you say is true, none of it will be helped (except for Fish) by a parking garage in that location that merely absorbs the number of parking spaces to be lost from existing commuter parking on lots slated for apartment buildings. Tell me that people going to the movies or Bookends would walk from there!
to 602, u know u love it, right, come on i see u there all the time, right,
9.09 eased us onto pool quite elegantly but No. majority do not want that eyesore impact on Hudson Street.once built all hell breaks loose.
Summer vacation season used to be when the bad deals and new fees where slipped into the towns ordanances. Looking forward to a new more transparent approach with the New Village ahead.
YES, 3:29! We’re so beaten down that we can hardly remember a truly transparent and unselfish council. Can’t wait.
Unfortunately some of us can’t easily “walk a few blocks”. And having a garage at the end of town away from the few businesses we have left would not help us at all. How about, when considering parking, placing a few more handicapped places in town? And adding diagonal
parking would add a lot of new spaces.
