I wish I knew as well, but we have to trust the police – many of whom if not most – live in town, with their kids, so you can believe they have our best interests at heart. No report of this activity is very likely on purpose for a valid reason. It may be something as simple as any news would hamper an ongoing investigation. Call me naive if you like, but I personally believe if the police had to report on something that might hurt the town’s reputation – but would make us safer – I believe they would then still report it.
No report leads to speculation and rumors. Everyone knows that something happened, we are not going to ignore it because RPD does not feel obligated to inform the public.
I think that they responded to something in an over-the-top manner. Maybe the homeowner is in a position to sue.
I completely agree with this post. We are not entitled to know every police action and their decision to keep this incident under wraps must be trusted. “I” – there does not need to be speculation and rumors, unless busy bodies like you decide to fuel them.
Or maybe a police officer or other public official was involved.
Sad to see that our mayor is following in the footsteps of her predecessor – lots of photo ops and social media posts (especially when another relative is sworn in to Ridgewood uniformed services) but not a peep when it comes to officers with rifles drawn respond to incidents. I’m sure if there were a shoot-up on Circle Ave, she’d want to know.
8:17. Being nosey is not the same as expecting to be informed about safety by public officials. The heavy police presence was unusual. I don’t need to know the names of the individuals involved just what happened to trigger the response.
In the police blotter they often release info about petty offenses with the (innocent until proven guilty) names of residents. Even 18 year olds!
I still think that RPD overreacted to a situation and are now trying to craft a believable explanation. I just hope that they put this in the police blotter too.
