Reader says over decades I have never seen any evidence of the BOE taking any action based on the public’s comments
I’ve been to more BOE meetings over the years than I care to mention, sometimes to speak, sometimes just to listen. Yet over decades of time I have never seen any evidence of the BOE taking any action based on the public’s comments.
And btw, what they’ve done regarding these large yearly increases in the activities fees is disgraceful. On top of that, we had a considerable period without the added expense of a principal’s salary, so why are we even being charged for activities this year?
The board should be making informed decisions based on input from a variety of sources. People who feel very strongly about an issue may go to a board meeting. Others may write letters or call Cottage Place.
Providing an opinion at a board meeting does not mean that the board must act on your concern in a manner that pleases you.
Activity fees help pay for activities. A lot has been cut from the budget in recent years and it is a way for users of a service to pay their share.
They just have to listen…..not act. In fact the code of ethics they must legally adhere to calls for them to “not surrender their independent judgment”.
#1 – agree with you but do you think “users of a service to pay their share” should mean a pay-for-play system? I don’t think a kid who participates in German Club during his lunch hour should pay as much as a kid who plays 3 varsity sports which includes equipment, coaches, trainers, etc. I know the sports booster parents contribute but not nearly enough to cover the costs. What does everybody think? If we are paying for activities, shouldn’t we pay for the activities our kids actually participate in and ONLY the activities our kids participate in (of course, there would need to be a fund to pay for families that couldn’t afford the activities).
