Reader says preservation of the woodlands is wonderful but I think money can be better spent than renovating the Schedler house

Schedler Park

I am really happy that the wooded area will stay but what is the legitimate historical significance of the house? Why not level it and let nature take its course (with some additional native plantings to help mother nature along)…1030 obviously hasn’t seen eagles scavenging on the property (not nesting as some people have claimed) or the turkey vultures having their sunday afternoon carrion brunch… those were impressive sights in themselves…. Once again, preservation of the woodlands is wonderful but I think money can be better spent than on renovating that house.

  1. I agree. However, since the town purchased it, I think we’re going to see a smaller ballfield and walking trails. But, before anything becomes a reality, a sturdy barrier between Rt.17 and the property must be erected. Before the sound barrier was erected a car went off of Rt. 17 and landed in a Queens Ct backyard. And, with the barriers, a truck went into a backyard on the East Saddle River road exit.Safety MUST be the first order of business!

  2. Good money after bad. Just cause it is “historic ” doesn’t mean that we need to keep it.

    It is an insignificant structure

  3. At some point in time the east side of towners will have to share the burden of fields and parks used by the rest of the town….they have gotten off scot-free for a long long time.

  4. Oh yeah, James, you’ve got to upgrade your ride…

  5. Keep the park, don’t spend a dime on the house except to tear it down.

  6. Don’t even tear it down, let it burn for Fire Department training.
    What a waste of money.

  7. Last idea is the best! But, 6:50, you may not be aware that Glen School has had 2 ball fields on it since the school was built. And they are heavily used. come try to park in ball season.

  8. The Mayor has a serious conflict of interest on Schedler, why is she pushing this agenda when she must be recusing herself from any discussion of Schedler? Her father, who donated to her campaign for Village Council, lives right across the street from the property. This is not private property, it’s Village land.

  9. Seems like property taxes are the “most pressing issue for the Village of Ridgewood” based on the 38% of votes in the poll up on this blog. So seems strange that Schedler has become such a key issue for the Council. Can someone from the VC pease clarify why that is the case?
