Reader Says Ridgewood, “Board members do not see themselves as representatives of the people but as an agent (s)of the superintendent”

cottageplaceBOE_theridgewoodblog

“There is nothing happening at the BOE that is truly transparent because Board members do not see themselves as representatives of the people but as an agent (s)of the superintendent. Committee meeting reports are rarely heard . For years minutes were not kept. Until recently you never even heard real discussions. The last public comment session takes place before the last agenda items which often include important items relevant to those attending and those watching from home. Mr. Dani attends meetings and asks politely for information that should be readily available to the public but doesn’t receive it. This happens to others as well. He pursued his request and we found out that there is no policy that precludes Bof E members from conducting business on private email accounts. This must be corrected. Also, without the questions regarding the bond referendum , we would be looking at an additional vote this year on a 95 million dollar bond on top of the 115 million dollar budget vote.”

  1. Paulina Aronsohn believed that the Village Council worked for the Village Manager. Asshole was he.

  2. These comment sections are not fair or balanced because the moderator allows only one view (and a nasty one at that, see above ☝️)

  3. Listen, every town has the same dynamic. Taxpayers pay for services and employees deliver those services. There’s bound to be an element of negotiations. If taxpayers had their way, there would be no admins and teachers would work 24/day, 7 days /week for free. If it was up to employees, they would do nothing and get 6 figure salaries, constantly expanding # of hires to keep doing nothing.

So let’s be adults here. We’ve hired professionals to run schools where our kids go. We have to have good controls around what these professionals do to keep quality up and cost from spiraling out of control. Hence need for effective and independent BOE.

The BOE candidates need to be further accountable to taxpayers. That means transparency and controls to prevent conflicts of interest.

Alas, what all too often happens is, oversight boards get bored with details and afraid to make hard choices when an important decision has to be made. They rely instead on the professional that the taxpayers have hired.

After a while the BOE gets accustomed to relying on professions to a point they lose their independence. At which point time to get some fresh blood in. No hard feelings, nothing personal. Just business.

  5. it’s always been 30 business. The Board of Education, the women’s group, the realtor group, the sports group, dirty politics. Unfortunately at this time they cannot control local media anymore like they did in the past remember, the record the Ridgewood knows, the Villa Dome times. Yeah those days.

  6. Dani causes more problems and doesn’t solve anything but causes the town to be more fractured than ever. We can’t imagine him in a BOE position to bring people together. It’s down hill hold your breath if he is elected, and Lorraine and knudsen gets elected as mayor. Get your for sale signs out.

  7. Guess Sue Knudsen has a bee in her bonnet and wants to exact her revenge on Dr. Fishbein and the other BOE members? Why? Is it an ego thing? Maybe anger at the schools and teachers?

  8. OK Agent of the Superintendent sounds pretty cool.
    Do I get a gun?
Is Miss Moneypenny going to be my secretary?
Oh, and I want an Aston Martin with the machine guns up front.
    This is SO cool.

  9. From a previous poster: “If it was up to employees, they would do nothing and get 6 figure salaries, constantly expanding # of hires to keep doing nothing.”

A SLIGHTLY modified version of this is exactly what HAS been happening in the Ridgewood schools.

  10. Or the decision to chop the Datura down in front of post office because of the fact that officer Tuchol was charged with having a dangerous stramonium solution likely made from the flowers under Tuchol’s jurisdiction @time. As everyone is upset and clear on the same approximate things I thought I’d shed light on this very obvious coverup that has been shamefully swept under the rug. The man is a predator and received a slap on the wrist.

  11. I was not clear on the previous post but just wanted to ask where can I apply for the role of Puppetmaster of the Superintendent?
