Can we assume that our transparent administration has immediately suspended the wresting team ? How could we possibly allow them to continue to compete with a Ridgewood school sponsor?
Can we expect our police department to execute arrests in the near future ? Can it really take 10days to get the details ?
Can we assume that we will see a number of kids expelled ?
This can not be allowed to just be swept away, nor is this a time for counseling as suggested by the administration. We need prompt, clear transparent action to let everyone know that bullying, gang fighting, team pack mentality, and not doing the right thing will not be tolerated at all
Agree 100%. But here is a further disturbing aspect to this. I spoke with my niece yesterday who is a 6th grader in BF. She was ADAMANT that the boy who was beaten did something wrong and deserved it. And her mind could not be reasoned with it. She could not, would not grasp that 1) no one deserves to be beaten within inches of their life regardless of what he allegedly did. And 2) that no other kid watching could determine this was wrong and notify some adult in authority. Not to say any kid is without fault, but my niece is otherwise an intelligent, caring empathetic kid. And sadly I don’t think her views are isolated among her peers. So the problem is much, much deeper and darker and the surface has just been scratched. Education needs to be targeted down to the kindergarten level of the obvious lessons of right and wrong here.
What does this have to do with any one team? I heard that hstvif they go based on the videos and interviews that every sports team would be shut down. This wasnt about one team.
How about a lesson in missuse of social media? Don’t send naked photos to other students?
What is the “team” connection? Is this new information?
Multiple kids in nineth grade who know the participants (but haven’t necessarily been at the fight itself) told us that the published story is completely one sided. demanding swift actions based on views of particular parents does not seem very appropriate. Nor is suspending entirewrestling team just because the freshman kid (who is described by his classmates as a very decent boy) was a member of it.
IF you would like a clear demonstration of how the Ridgewood Board of Education actually works– go to the Board of Education meetings. Educate yourselves. Express your concerns. There’s one tonight @ 7:30p.
Igor, I have heard similar accounts from another parent of a 9th grade boy. She would not even accept the possibility that the kids believe the wrestling team and support them because they are the popular kids.
