Reader says the garage, was promised to the developers so that they could legally provide less parking

Halaby et al do not favor any parking solutions except the garage, promised by former Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli and former Mayor Paul Aronsohn  to the developers so that they could legally provide less parking on their own apartment properties. Resolve the parking situation in other ways and the (unwanted, unneeded, solution-less) garage goes away. We can’t have that!!!!!!!

  1. I have looked at the downtown housing proposals and wondered if one would work for me when I downsize.

Parking is one of the many issues that I could not get answers to. I recently hosted a birthday dinner for a family member. Relatives showed up in 6 cars, and this includes some carpooling. If I lived in a condo in town where would they park?

The developers are imagining that condo owners will be traveling exclusively by train or bus. They must be hoping to fill the condos with city dwellers who have not developed a suburban love of cars. I never shop in downtown Ridgewood. I do not buy clothes in a boutique, I go to a department store, during a sale, with a coupon.

Ridgewood is an expensive town with no practical retail shopping. I realize that they canjot compete with malls but developers need to stop pretending that owners will need one or two parking spots. And some extra for guests.

  2. The narrative that apartment dwellers will have no cars, no children, and no visitors or in-home services is only one of the appalling canards that the developers have not hesitated to promulgate upon our willing ears.
