The mayor and council have NOTHING TO DO with hiring police and fire department employees or in fact any employees but the Village Manager, who hires staff, and the village attorney (I think). They do appoint volunteer members of committees, commissions, and boards, but not salaried employees. If that’s not 100% correct, it’s close. Definitely not police/fire. Voigt knows this. mayor should have recused herself from any discussion or vote regarding this property. There is an obvious odor of conflict whether or not you agree with the project.
