Reader says, “the neighbors who thought the “noise” was a nuisance could have knocked on their neighbor’s doors”

“This is so sad. The kids were playing at a decent hour. So they were being considerate of their neighbors.

Let the kids play!

I grew up playing ball in the street and in my neighborhood the parents were understanding and tolerant of the fact that we were just looking for a place to play, so they made sure the cars were out of our way. That was very cool of them! On the few occasions that a car was “in the way” we incorporated that into our game.

Moral of the story is that the neighbors who thought the “noise” was a nuisance could have knocked on their neighbor’s doors before alerting the police. AND likewise, the police shouldn’t have stopped the kids because they didn’t violate ANY ordinances whatsoever.”

  1. Knocking on the door of the neighbor will just provoke a confrontation .
    Call the police…it’s their job.
And the ordinance makes reference to annoying or disturbing. It’s not a decibel limit with an hour (unless it’s been changed)
Newsflash to inconsiderate residents: keep your noise to yourself. If it can be heard past the property line, it will annoy someone, most likely a taxpayer who is subsidizing your brats in school.
The streets belong to the cars. Go play in one of the mud hole parks that we wasted tax dollars on .
    It’s not all about you.

  2. Everybody hates Chris

  3. The ordinance says you can play until 11 PM. The cops really screwed this one up. Somebody’s head should roll.

  4. The fact that neighbors are no longer neighborly, that we cannot knock on a neighbor’s door; that we do not know our neighbors is very different from many years ago when neighborhoods were friendly; times have indeed changed. The situation now is dangerous. The 9/11 terrorists were able to live in neighborhoods and hatch their dangerous plots because they knew neighbors ignore neighbors.

Also, neighbors not knowing and being unfriendly to neighbors, increases social isolation; very dangerous because teens more likely to take drugs and alcohol when they alienated, and they will feel alienated in an unfriendly neighborhood.

The above comment about hate is what America does not need. Again it stems from alienation. The comment is an example of social media bullying.

  5. Really….calling the police on children playing? Miserable neighbor why are you living in the suburbs if you hate kids?

  6. Lol…”Everybody hates Chris” I love that show. Very funny show about an unhappy character.

  7. There’s more here than the OP summarized in their Facebook post. We reap what we sow.

  8. The guy who called the cops is a complete social misfit. A miserable excuse for a human being. Yes, you, you weasily little man.

  9. This one individual neighbor is stating that the noise should not pass the property line yeah OK. What about when you are blowing your leaves the noise passes the property line jerk. What a stupid comment. Some people are living in a bubble.

  10. I’m not sure where it says that the cops stopped them from playing. It just says that they were called. If they did stop it then the homeowner deserves an explanation. Just them showing up on an complaint doesn’t mean there’sa violation or they did anything.

  11. To the person who called the police, move out of the suburbs and go live in a bubble. Stop wasting our tax dollars on unnecessary police calls. Shame on you for picking on happy kids playing.

  12. The new ordinance says live music is ok until at least 11:00 pm. That said, I don’t think that knocking on a neighbor’s door is confrontational at all if the request to turn the music down is polite and, well, non confrontational. Calling in the cops without talking to your neighbor is kind of a douche move if you ask me.

  13. Cut any more cables lately? Move, you vile manchild. You have alienated all your neighbors.

  14. To me living in a community means compromise. I don’t always like my neighbor using a leaf blower at dinner time but maybe that’s the only chance they have to do yard work. My neighbor’s dog might be barking when I’m trying to nap but it’s his nature. Music might have been loud but the kids could have been practicing for a special occasion. Why must everyone be so angry and strident. It’s all so very sad.

  15. Sounds like all the inconsiderate NY transplants have no consideration for their neighbors .
News flash – nobody gives a shit about your inconsiderate kids.
This is so typical of self centered liberal democrats who only care about themselves

  16. Yes. But the homeowner who made this story up is a known mama bear who thinks the world should exist to make her son a prince. She’s not 100% abive board with her interpretation of a events.
