” It is just a matter of time before another historical chunk of RW is swallowed by builders. I see a lot of people on Facebook expressing concern about this site, about how Ridgewood is losing its character, etc. However, I would like to remind that many of them either voted for Aronsohn or happily embraced the garage and the new apartment buildings. So I am sorry but you should have used your brain a little more and think about long term consequences. You’re seeing just the start of an avalanche of buildings, subdivisions, etc. that will totally transform Ridgewood to some XYZ city place. “
I live in a subdivision. You live in a subdivision. We all live in a subdivision.
I live in a house constructed by a builder, and so do you.
Yes, but, after a certain point the subdivisions make the neighborhood crowded and unattractive.
You are talking about destroying what amounts to beautiful historical landmarks. (My eyes and heart tell me that is what they are; never mind the official designation).
The fact that variances have to to be passed to the master plan makes the point.
Our founding fathers and mothers of Ridgewood created a wonderful, charming VILLAGE. We should not spoil it.
It would indeed be tragic to destroy the beauty, charm and character of what we have. No variances should be allowed to destroy such beauty.
Furthermore, the houses you wish to demolish are like personages. They are majestic, historical, landmarks; almost, no really, they seem like a part of nature that they rose up like a hill or a beautiful rock or a tree, a natural creation, so beautiful. And speaking of nature, you wouldn’t, you couldn’t take down the magnificent trees on the properties.
Take what money you can get from a normal sale and be done with it. Do not leave destruction in your wake.
Buildings aren’t people…..really, they’re not. Private property is just that. If you dont own it you should have very little say in what happens to it.
RW is becoming a sh*thole
… and your dim-witted neighbors are cheering it on.
There is such a thing as architectural beauty and architecture can have a lifelike presence. Not to appreciate such beauty is quite beastly, inhuman.
yeah this place sucks anway
O well. Time to move.
Actually, I don’t live in a subdivision nor do I live in a house that contractors but. My home is 200+ years old and was originally a barn. The house all around me are unique and individual.
Looks like I got out just in time.
“Buildings aren’t people…..really, they’re not. Private property is just that. If you dont own it you should have very little say in what happens to it.”
Hey, neighbor tell that to the planning board when they ask for public comment.
And tell that to the planning board when they vote the new subdivision request down.
The same people that scream about architectural significant structures (when it comes down to subdividing a lot) are the same people who put vinyl or aluminum siding on their historic home…..or knock down an old one to build some gross ugly piece of modern shit that is totally out of character with the neighborhood like that monstrosity on west Ridgewood have between heights and Monroe … And another turd is going up on north monroe south of West Glen that looks just like it
We live in a community where we pool out taxes to pay for schools, roads, public safety, sanitation, water, etc. So this notion of “don’t tell me what to do with my property” has no place. Developers sell Ridgewood on those specific items. So, they are getting the benefit of our tax dollars with this over development. If you want total freedom to do what you will with your property, go buy a parcel of land in Syria and an ak 47. Otherwise, shut up with that nonsense becuase a free democratic community has the right to self-regulate. And zoning laws that are on the books already do not represent the taking of private property, they are simply the playing field we must all abide by to live as neighbors.
I get it, our taxes are too high. Well, speak up against public waste and extravagant contracts and do something about it. Allowing people to sell their properties to developers who will turn the place into a slum is simply cutting off our nose to spite our face.
And don’t keep blaming Arohson, Yes, he and pucciarelli started this all. Remember Pucc’s parting shot, when he said he didn’t want to hurt the Village but he felt he owed Ridgewood over development as he was on the way out the door. (Just like Judge Smalls in Caddyshack saying he didn’t want to send youngsters to the gallows, but he felt he owed it to them.)
More importantly, ask this current council what have they done to stop the over development? The answer might be very little. And don’t say their hands were tied by the prior council, becuase they wern’t entirely and that excuse is a total cop out.
You cannot generalize saying “the same people who etc” You are saying that no one appreciates historical architectural beauty and that is simply untrue. Let us start with churches such as Notre Dame and the fire that destroyed much of it. People were heartbroken all over the world; the same with wonderful old houses with their detailed woodwork and individuality. PEOPLE CARE.
Again and again, Knudsen and Sedon Voted NO on the over-development. They were out voted. What could they do? Tell Me. and stop playing games and casting insinuations. Tell me factually what the current council can do do stop the four multifamily housing developments.
Knudsen, our heroine, did say NO to the Kensington assisted Living development proposed super aggressively by the Kensington executives. What more can she and the present council do?
Pray tell me; tell us and we will communicate it and do it if possible.
Our heroine? REALLY?
Seeing what they have been doing with Schedler, train station trees etc. I am inclined to believe that they both voted no just because they didn’t see their vote as deciding. The 3 amigos were dead set in a YES vote, any other vote would be just wasted. So why not use it to look like a warrior!?
There are no heroes in RW politics. Maybe many years ago but not recently. Things will only get worse as national politics and leftists penetrate here and make RW deeply blue.
