Readers continue to voice issue with Free News Paper Delivery

Maybe the USPS could take advice from the jerks that hurl unwanted, junk newspapers into our yard.

Despite letters and phone calls, like clockwork, they litter our property every week. We are even getting papers in KOREAN now! Does anyone know how to get these papers stopped once and for all?

If you are on vacation and your house gets broken into (while these junk papers are hurled onto your property) then sue the shit out of the company that delivered them.

When I go away, I stop the mail and the subscription papers.Having that crap in your driveway alerts burglars that nobody is home. Its disgraceful that the Village does not go after these companies for littering.

We came home after only two days away and those disgusting, free newspapers were piled up on our lawn. It IS a dead giveaway that we’re away.

I thought littering was a crime. This trashing and invasion of our privacy, property and home has to stop! But how? There are no addresses to write to, email addresses or phone numbers to call and sometimes the papers are not even in English!

  1. I finally stopped it by contacting:

https://www.northjersey.com/aboutus/contact.html and clicked on contact us…it stopped within two weeks.

Maybe if enough of us do this, they will get the hint!

  2. Isn’t that littering?

  3. I’ll try that link – and share it, too. Thanks!

  4. I have a gimpy arm, my neighbor is blind, one neighbor has a heart condition and my other neighbors are so busy these stupid papers turn into barely recognizable lumps of paper mache at the end of their driveway or on their lawn. We didn’t ask for these papers, we don’t want them. And we certainly don’t need to be cleaning up all this litter. We have enough on our plates already.

  5. I’ve been battling North Jersey Media for eight years! My letters and emails will get it stopped for a while. But then they start tossing those damned papers into my yard again.
We need Ridgewood to step in and call it what it is – litter – and fine these companies. That’s the only way to get it stopped once and for all.

  6. 8/9 -These “free” news papers that get tossed on your driveways by a passing van every Friday, have GOT to stop. They toss them out with no regard, and today, as in the past, the papers came out of their plastic sleeve leaving all the papers flying around everyone’s lawns, driveways, street, the neighborhood!! Littering garbage papers flying all around – a mess!! Isn’t there a fine for this – littering? Village of Ridgewood should not permit this to continue.

I called the number 1-800-376-6222 to tell them to stop. Said it takes 2 weeks to take off delivery ? list. I never asked for delivery in the first place and don’t want it.

  7. To STOP free news papers thrown on driveways, a/k/a littering, call 1-800-376-6222.
Call 1-800-376-6222 to STOP free news papers thrown on yard, driveways at your address.

  8. You should see Grove Street! Driving down yesterday it looks like a litterfest! Nasty papers in ubiquitous plastic bags tossed everywhere. It looks horrible. It’s litter plain and simple!

  9. Thank you for the phone number. I’ll try it.
    Also email –
    wsjsupport@wsj.com
(for the wall street journal and barrons papers)

  10. Email –
    circulation@northjersey.com
It works for a while. You might have to email them every so often to remind them.

  11. It would be good, I think, if Ridgewood offered a permanent OPT OUT program that once homeowners sign up they will not have to be harassed by this trash anymore.

  12. I tried this one –
    homedelivery.nytimes.com

and was able to get their papers (even the Korea Times!) stopped – for now.

  13. These are Advertisement Flyers being tossed. They’re not news papers. How can the VOR website tell people those unrequested newspapers(?) are a ‘free speech issue’??
Call it what it is, Advertisement Flyers from Kmart, Sears, RiteAid, Verizon, The Record a form to subscribe to, ShopRite, plus others, etc. No papers. All these ad flyers used to be delivered by regular mail service weekly to your mailbox. a/k/a ‘junk mail’. They stopped coming, and instead now ‘junk’ Ad Flyers get tossed on your private property. An infringement on private property owners rights.

I believe Free speech flyers hand outs are only permitted/ allowed on public property, or if door to door, a solicitor permit required. If an organization wishes to solicit door to door in VOR, they need to apply for a permit. Did The Record apply for a solicitor permit for Advertisement Flyers to be tossed onto private residential properties?

Unwanted Newspapers – Information to End Delivery of Non Requested Newspapers

Residents have called Village Hall asking for a way to stop the unrequested newspapers in their driveways – we recommend resident personally contact the appropriate company at the phone number listed on the publication.
To contact The Record – call 888-473-2673; ask to be placed on the “Non Subscriber’s List”.
It may take a few calls to stop the delivery.
The Village of Ridgewood cannot regulate these deliveries as it is a “Freedom of Speech” issue.

  14. I really wish I had your so-called “problem” — unlike everyone else here, I guess I’m not as rich, and eagerly look forward to all the circulars, ads, coupons, etc. that I can get. Unfortunately, my building’s super/mangers drive aways those distributing them or else throw them out. Especially in these hyper-stagflationary times, they’re literally a life saver.
