Ridgewood NJ,today marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a pivotal moment in history known as D-Day. The largest amphibious assault ever conducted, this event is being commemorated along a 50-mile stretch of northern France with President Joe Biden and dozens of heads of state in attendance. Among those honoring the occasion are nearly 200 veterans, whose average age is now 100.
Operation Overlord: A Turning Point in World War II
Operation Overlord, launched on June 6, 1944, was the Allies’ strategic effort to open a second front in the war against Nazi Germany. The invasion began early in the morning with around 13,000 paratroopers dropping behind enemy lines, followed by 135,000 US, British, and Canadian soldiers landing on the beaches of Normandy. This massive operation was a critical step in the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.
On that fateful day, over 4,400 Allied troops lost their lives, including 2,501 Americans. The Battle of Normandy that ensued claimed more than 73,000 lives over the following month. The success of the invasion, combined with the Soviet Union’s advance from the East, significantly contributed to the collapse of Nazi Germany within a year.
Honoring the Sacrifices
French President Emmanuel Macron will also pay tribute to the approximately 20,000 French civilians who perished during the Allied bombardment and subsequent battle. Their sacrifice, alongside the valiant efforts of the Allied forces, is a somber reminder of the immense cost of freedom and the enduring impact of this historic event.
As we reflect on this milestone anniversary, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought and those who lost their lives, forever shaping the course of history.

Post of the day!
Did you see that they trotted out Zelenskyy to have a hug-a-thon with the D-Day veterans? All those D-Day vets whose brothers died for democracy so they could hug a dude that suspends democracy in his own country.
