Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.

Even if doctors do not quit their jobs over the ruling, America will face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors by 2020. The newly passed health care bill increases the demand for physicians by expanding insurance coverage. This change will exacerbate the current shortage as more Americans live past 65

  1. Oh yes, patients have views too on doctors today, that make sure we are covered under medicare.
They worry more about their fees than their services.

    1. If you don’t like your doctor (for any reason) go and find another one.

Take advantage of this freedom now, while you still can, before Obamacare fully kicks in.

  2. I’d rather wait 2 hours in a waiting room for a qualified doctor of my choosing to perform the tests, diagnosis and procedures of my and his choosing and then pay him what he is worth for his skills rather than be told which doctor to go to and which tests and procedures to take and have the diagnosis and treatment decided by rules, regulations and a computer program even if it costs me nothing and I do not pay (which of course the reality is that I will likely wait lioonger and pay more).

  3. This blog is quoting another blog that is quoting a website. The website’s stated purpose is to repeal the new healthcare act. Keep following the links and you will find that the survey was sent to 36,000 doctors and 699 responded. Is that a representative sample of anything?

Many of the 699 complain but there are no jobs for them to move into with their skill set.

    1. Yup.

I’m sure there will be more highly skilled doctors working well into their retirement years and there will be a mad rush to med schools now that Obamacare is law.

Over here in realityland, we know that GOOD doctors will retire early and fewer TALENTED students will choose medicine as a career.
