Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood resident Saurabh Dani  challenged the bidding process “Display Advertising at the Train Station” . On Facebook Dani said , “Our village is going to sign a contract next week for 5 years (FIVE YEARS) for “Display Advertising at the Train Station” – where there was ONLY ONE BIDDER for our bid notice – and the revenue is divided at 60-40 with NO MINIMUM commitment / no retainer / no control by the village on the advertising rates. Is that how this industry works? i.e. 5 year long contracts, no minimum retainers? We have a chronic problem of ONLY ONE BIDDER for most of our bids – don’t know why no one wants to do business with our village except the repeat vendors, but still – 5 years contract based on ONE bid response?”

  1. Chromic ,….please. are you talking to chemistry class or residents??

  2. I have heard that no one wants to do business with the Village because the vendors have to wait to long to get paid.

  3. Historically, RFPs were carefully phrased to remove from consideration every company except the one that the town wished to hire. Old friends…deals…arrangements.SOP.

  4. Living this we usually reject a single bid, then we reach out to the other companies/suppliers to try to determine why they did not bid. Then we substantially change the bid (for legal reasons) If a small amount of bid packets are picked up, it is a pretty good indicator the bid will fail. It takes all government agencies forever to pay the bill, these bidders build that into the price. They are used to it, its part of the process.

  5. Yes that’s true and old news

  6. So can’t the council state that action cannot be taken unless more than one bid is offered? And isn’t our new Council supposedly above playing favorites? 10:02 is offering a pretty good suggestion.
