  3. >It appears as though Brennan is currently the Interim Superintendent of Schools in Moorestown, NJ.

  4. >I don’t understand why the board agenda didn’t include Brennan’s background information. The agendas have always included background information for newly hired administrators.

  5. >Yup, Dr. Timothy C. Brennan is currently Interim Superintendent at Moorestown Township Public Schools in New Jersey. You can go on their website: http://www.mtps.com and click on superintendent to see a picture of him.

  6. >Same BOE document…

    Resignation:

NYHUIS, Jeffrey, Assistant Principal:, Administration and Student Services, Ridgewood High School, effective September 18, 2007, or sooner, with eleven years of Ridgewood service.

Anyone know why Nyhuis is leaving? He’s well regarded in the RHS.

  7. >Actually, to see a pic of and read more background information on the new interim superintendent go to their website: http://www.mtps.com, click on administration and then click on superintendent.

  8. >Looks like over there for math in the elementary schools they have Scott Forseman-Addison Wesley and McDougal Littel.

And they let 4th and 5th graders advance.

What a concept. I could really like this guy.

  9. >McDougal Littel is what we had in the middle schools that is being replaced by Connected Math.

  10. >PJ … Thanks for posting the picture of Brennan. I think you should add a line to his bio saying he is currently serving as Interim Superintendent for Moorestown Township Public Schools in NJ and take out “From June until now, I don’t know where he resurfaced.”

  11. >A language guy! Can we keeeeeep him???? Pleeeeeease? Huh, can we? I like this! I was getting sick of the math, math, math…

  12. >Where will Dr. Brennan be commuting from?

  13. >Anywhere in NJ will take him less time to get here than the commute Dr. Brooks would have had to deal with on a dialy basis from Long Island.

    Speaking of Dr. Brooks:

    Welcome Dr Brooks

using mapquest, this is about 20-25 minutes from his home.

    a better commute.

  14. >By the way..I was out on long island this past weekend and met someone who had just graduated from the district that Brooks was being ousted from….she knew all about what had happened in ridgewood as it got alot of press out on the island. Also said that Brooks was definately being fired and they had been trying to get rid of him for a couple of years….the math program in the district was a disaster…she went through it and it was bringing the whole district down…..

  15. >Dear anonymous of 8:33 AM,

The fact that his math program was a mess is a given. It’s clear by looking at their advocacy web site.

But if what you say is true, that he was to be fired, then that explains entirely why he didn’t want to walk into another firestorm.

And it also means that those who made him feel “unwelcome” in Ridgewood have done us all a BIG favor.

  16. >Word is Brennan did NOT come through the search firm.

That alone is good news as search firms have a financial interest in repackaging used and unwanted goods into “someone perfect for you.”

  17. >Yes that is true 9:40…the young lady I was speaking with was very impressed that the folks in Ridgewood were so active and so aware of the dangers of the math program. Once he is entrenched….it would have been much tougher to get rid of him….we would have had to endure 5 years of this crappy math program….I have hope…..

  18. >BTW… I saw the local coverage of this Brooks story from a NY paper. Dr Brooks was supposed to take a position in NJ.. but “It didnt work out.” Quoting Brooks “There were some issues there with the math program. Besides, now I dont have to find a new place to live.”

    Issues… gee, you think???

I dont know Dr. Brooks… and while I am glad he moved on, I wish him well in this new position. But what makes me sick is that we’re paying Long Island-based consultants a FEE to place someone here. Talk about conflict of interest.
Just a question… did the BOE pay a fee, even after Dr. Brooks turned down the job? I’d like to know that one.

GREAT news if Brennan did not come thru the search firm. That says something right there: FAR away from the inner circle and inbred BOE political club.

  19. >BRENNAN WILL BE AT THE BOARD OF MEETING TONITE. COME ON DOWN!

  20. >I watched him on Channel 77. His speaking skills are impressive.

It was diplomatic and eloquent of him to compare Ridgewood to the Philadelphia Orchestra, seeking a new director.

And then he was self-effacing to boot.

Let’s see what he does, but it was a nice start.

Maybe the board will like him and want to hire him permanently.

It’s hard to know, though, his view of constructivism and reform math.

How could we go about finding out? How could we discover his true colors and then smile favorably upon him such that the BOE will want to keep him? Heck, I know he goes around taking interim jobs, but if he really likes it here, maybe he’ll stay.

  21. >Dear “Dr” Brennan:

What is your view of constructivist math?

    Sincerely,

A parent with children in the public schools.

  22. >7:08
    Don’t get your hopes up.

Maybe he is retired and can’t do a full time job in the pension system.

  23. >Ding Dong – The witch is dead! At least for now.

  24. >Who’s the witch?

  25. >I think 6:09 is referring to the present interim superintendent – Botsford.
