RIDGEWOOD — Barring any unforeseen developments, the village will soon be home to a new residential complex on Chestnut Street.
Chestnut Village, a 43-unit apartment complex, will include seven units set aside for affordable housing. It will be built at the site of the old state inspection station, near the village’s central garage.
This is no surprise. It is David Bolger’s project.
Honestly, I’m not so sure that it’s because it’s a Bolger project. A few years ago, he was pummeled on a regular basis because of his philanthropy appearing to be a pay-to-play. The VC was up in arms, the local papers echoed the same. I think that because it’s a couple of blocks north of the CBD, it may make more sense than within the CBD.
It makes sense to build there. It is currently an eyesore and who cares if DB owns the place. The guy has spent a ton of money to make Ridgewood better. So if we are going to approve anything at least give it to the guy who cares about the town.
Except that it is now and forever a precedent for other developers (and perhaps more from Bolger).
9:57 nailed it.
No backbone in RW anymore.
the slow drip, drip, drip of erosion into mediocrity of a former premier town.
So what 957…? What’s your point? Nothing in town should be built or improved upon because your a dinosaur and insist on living in the past? And so what if it’s Bolger…the family has done more and given more to all the surrounding towns over the years and we should be thankful. I am. And YOU are not.
David Bolger is retired.
