Ridgewood NJ ,in what is unfortunately becoming an all too common occurrence, on Monday night, February 24, a room full of meeting attendees was kept waiting for 17 minutes beyond the scheduled 7:00 PM meeting start time by Ridgewood Board of Education members who were delayed in another meeting.

This was not an isolated incident. Regardless of the verbal apology offered by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Schwarz, the “consistently late” behavior of Board members is unprofessional and disrespectful to taxpayers. Additionally, this behavior conveys the message that Board members’ time is more important than the waiting public’s time. UNACCEPTABLE, period.
It’s time (no pun intended) for Board members to figure out how to arrive at scheduled public meetings in advance of the published start. Members of the public should no longer be forced to just sit and wait. We’ve done quite enough waiting, thank you. Figure it out now, PLEASE!

    1. Actually, yes. For starters, one of the results of gentrification is that POC often live far outside the white, urban business centers and face burdensome commuting barriers in terms of not only time, but being subject to conditions outside their control, which impede their ability to conform to white standards of punctuality. Black women are especially harmed by this, because additionally it takes much longer for them to get their hair did, such that it complies with white business expectations.

  9. NJEA: math still racists
