  1. Good job John….

  2. I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess the guy was white.

  3. I’m gonna go out on a limb and ask what difference does that make?

  4. Lets at least acknowledge that it took 1/2 the cops in Bergen County and probably cost $500k to deal with something that is handled 5 times a day by teams of 2 NYC beat cops. The guy was a nut with a gun. Clear a couple neighboring apartments. Talk him down and move on.

But this is good training for us citizens to just comply when heavily armed military style police invade. I do not accept that we need a military deployment to get one nut out of his apartment. I do not accept that we should allow the funding of heavily armed troops in our community. If there has ever been an issue where we should “starve the beast” this is it.

  5. 8:30 –

Easy to say since it ended well. If things had gone wrong, there could have been many people hurt. When it comes to protecting the public from a nutcase, caution is in order. The guy had made wildly threatening comments at his parish in Palisades park. There was good reason to suspect that he intended to hurt more than himself.

Kudos to the Ridgewood police and all others who assisted.

  6. I didn’t say do nothing but I have a hard time believing our police couldn’t handle the situation alone. I believe our officers could have resolved the situation without requiring military intervention.

  7. I believe our police officers handled it exactly right when they called for backup. Armchair quarterback that you are, you know nothing about the realities of making these difficult decisions in the heat of a dangerous situation.
