Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Crew (RC) has just returned from the US Rowing Youth National Championship Regatta in Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. Two hundred twenty-five clubs from across the country entered eight hundred thirty-four events. Ridgewood Crew raced five pre-qualified boats.

Over the four-day event, RC athletes were strong competitors despite wind and extreme heat conditions at the unique, man-made lake, specifically designed for rowing. This event posed our rowers against their strongest competition of the season, primarily year-round club rowers. Five qualifying boats were the most RC has sent in many years. Head Coach Boris Roque Alvarez remarked, “Our rowers had the opportunity to compete against the best junior rowers in the country, despite the fierce competition Ridgewood Crew was very well represented. We are looking forward to making the USROWING Youth Nationals the most important race of the year.”

Our results included:

Mens Youth 2x T. Clark/S. Boogaert 6th place A Final

Mens Youth 1x N. Harris 1st place B Final

Womens U17 1x E. Mohanram 7th place B Final

Mens U17 4x W. Nasr/S. Scharfenberg/M. Moomjy/U. Han 1st place C Final

Womens Youth 1x S. Kliesch 5th place D Final

Back in New Jersey, Ridgewood Crew rowers are now training for the regional summer series and Royal Canadian Henley Regatta from August 6-13.

About Ridgewood Crew

Ridgewood Crew introduces Ridgewood, NJ high school-aged youth to the traditions, athleticism, sportsmanship, techniques and camaraderie of the sport of rowing. Founded in 2004, the team rows on the Passaic River in northern NJ and competes in the sport’s premier regattas held throughout the Northeast.

In the program’s short history, our youth, board and parent volunteers have moved Ridgewood Crew forward by leaps and bounds. That success is represented by the widespread individual and team achievements of each of the student-athletes on the roster. To facilitate that success, Ridgewood Crew continues to make investments in coaching and new equipment. The coaching staff is one of the most experienced in program history.

Ridgewood Crew athletes compete in the Philly Manny Flicks on the Schuylkill River as well as at the highly competitive SRAA Nationals, Stotesbury Cup Regatta, Philadelphia City Championships, Passaic River Northern NJ Championships, Cooper Cup and Garden State Championships.

Additionally, the team’s overall performance continues to attract interest from top rowing colleges and universities including Boston College, Boston University, Bucknell, Columbia University, Cornell University, University of Delaware, Drexel, Duke, Fairfield, Fordham, George Mason, Georgetown, Harvard, Holy Cross, Ithaca, Lehigh, Marist, Northeastern, Notre Dame, Purdue, Rutgers, Skidmore, Syracuse, Trinity College, Williams, and others.
