THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS
Questions have arisen in recent weeks over the process by which the Village Council submitted its application to Bergen County for its Open Space grant, prompting officials to respond in a public forum.
During a recent council meeting, Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld dedicated a portion of her manager’s report to address questions that had been brought up both that evening and in past meetings.
The Village of Ridgewood has applied for a Bergen County Open Space matching grant that will cover preliminary work needed at the Schedler property to allow for the construction of any passive or active recreational purposes on the site, said Sonenfeld.
The grant will fund the removal of the garage and shed, the capping of a well and the removal of dead, diseased or downed trees and stumps. Bidding for this work will go out in October or November pending the approval of another resolution by the council.
During public comment, resident Frank Delvecchio asked if the village is providing any funding for the project as the open space application indicated $100,000 in capital funds will be used in order to apply.
Sonenfeld said the $100,000 amount is a gift coming from the Ridgewood Baseball Softball Association (RBSA), which would be accepted through the village’s gift ordinance and could then be deposited into a special trust fund for the park before moving it into a municipal capital fund account.

Business as usual for the 3 Amigos and their Field Marshal Roberta.
Don’t miss the completely inaccurate letter to the editor by Don Delzio in the Friday October 2nd edition of The Ridgewood News. I can only suppose that the RBSA is so desperate to get a 60/90 field in place at Schedler Park that they’ve decided to manufacture scandalous facts in order to discredit anyone who is likely to get in their way. Target of the season seems to be Councilwoman Susan Knudsen and the designated assassin of the season is Don Delzio . I pray that Councilwoman Knudsen sees the letter and sues Don Delzio for slander libel stalking and defamation of character. He should be banned from attending any future public meetings or at a minimum banned from making comments at public meetings. Yogi Berra was right when he said that a good thing about little league baseball is it keeps parents off of the streets. Fact – Don Delzio is a true case in point.
Delzio shouts FACT when screaming out lies. Been there, seen and heard that at Council meetings. I hope he gets the book thrown at him for such recklessness
FACT – Mr. Don Delzio conveniently failed to mention in his letter to the editor that he is a current trustee of the Ridgewood Baseball & Softball Association, an organization with a vested interest in the outcome of discussions regarding the development of Schedler Park.
FACT- Councilwoman Susan Knudsen did not recuse herself from further Council votes on Schedler Park during the Council’s August 12 meeting. FACT – Mr. Delzio’s letter is inaccurate with respect to this issue.
FACT – Councilwoman Susan Knudsen does not have a personal interest in property adjacent (contiguous) to Schedler Park. FACT – Mr. Delzio’s letter is inaccurate with respect to this issue as well.
FACT – Councilwoman Susan Knudsen is not personally responsible for opinions offered by other adult members of her family. FACT – By suggesting that Councilwoman Knudsen should offer an apology for comments made by her father, Mr. Delzio’s letter is again, inaccurate.
FACT – Yogi Berra was right when he said that a good thing about little league baseball is it keeps parents off of the streets. FACT – Don Delzio proved Yogi right as evidenced by his asinine letter to the editor.
