Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Maroons cruised to an 18-0 win over the Hackensack Comets on their home turf, bouncing back after their four-game win streak was snapped by Passaic Tech. With this victory, Ridgewood now boasts a 5-1 record for the season, much to the delight of their cheering fans during Saturday afternoon’s game.
The game started off with a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to break through each other’s lines. Ridgewood quarterback Gavin McCrone tried to move the Maroons downfield with a series of successful passes to wide receiver Colin Burns. Despite getting into position, the Maroons couldn’t find the end zone, and the first quarter ended in a scoreless deadlock at 0-0.
In the second quarter, the defensive pressure continued until McCrone’s complete pass to Burns advanced Ridgewood to the 34-yard line. A follow-up pass to Will Yates brought them to the 25-yard line. After an incomplete pass, McCrone connected with Burns again, who ran the ball 25 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Kicker Kyle Caramagno nailed the extra point, giving the Maroons a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.
The third quarter saw a setback for the Maroons when Burns suffered an ankle injury, sidelining him for the rest of the game. However, the team didn’t lose momentum. AJ Caruso came through with a crucial interception, returning it for a touchdown. The Maroons followed up with a successful two-point conversion, extending their lead to 15-0.
Ridgewood’s defense continued to shine in the fourth quarter, with Michael McKenna intercepting Hackensack’s first play. Owen Laffey then led the Maroons down the field, setting up Caramagno to kick a 28-yard field goal, widening the score to 18-0 with seven minutes remaining.
While Ridgewood pushed hard to score again, the Hackensack defense held them off for the remainder of the game, which ended 18-0 in favor of the Maroons.
Ridgewood’s dominant performance showcased their resilience and depth, as they now look ahead to their next matchup with confidence.
