Ridgewood, NJ — Quick action by Ridgewood firefighters from Engine Company #35 and Rescue Company #42 prevented a dangerous situation from escalating after a fully involved engine compartment fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon, July 14, in the 400 block of Linwood Avenue.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as both vehicle occupants safely exited before the fire intensified.

The Ridgewood Fire Department’s A Platoon was dispatched to the scene after reports of a car fire. Upon arrival, the captain confirmed a working vehicle fire with potential exposure risks to nearby parked vehicles.
Within just three minutes, firefighters had water on the blaze, quickly knocking it down and preventing the flames from spreading further.
From the initial dispatch to returning to the firehouse, the entire operation took only 45 minutes, demonstrating the efficiency of Ridgewood’s emergency crews.

Ridgewood Police Department patrol officers managed traffic along Linwood Avenue, keeping the area safe while crews worked. Once the fire was fully extinguished, a flatbed tow truck removed the burned vehicle from the scene.
