Ridgewood NJ, the local traditions of putting chairs out to mark your spot before the the 4th of July parade goes back as far as we can remember . While the rain held and the parade was a major success , this year we have had some unfortunate developments. First there have been numerous complains of chairs having been stolen ,more than we can ever remember and the second disheartening development is the trend of people failing to clean up after themselves and take home their chairs after the festivities as well as police their garbage.

We’ve been saying this for many many years now, people used to always leave their chairs behind after the event, and their garbage. Talking about being extremely rude to do to someone else’s property. Then you wonder why residents don’t want chairs on their lawn before the event. Most of us feel that it’s cheap tacky to put your chairs on someone else’s lawn before the event. You walk in with your belongings, after the event, clean up after yourself and remove your old chairs, lazy asses. If the town had a set of poles. They would set an example to stop residence of putting out chairs for the event three days before come on. It’s a rude. Hey, if you leave your personal belongings on someone else’s property a few days before the event, guess what it’s fair game, finders, keepers, losers, weepers. Can I come over to your house and put chairs in front of your lawn? Just because it’s going to be a sunny day maybe you have better sun in front of your house than mine and my allowed to do that. same thing how would you like it. Probably not, right. Only in Ridgewood is do the stupid shit with the chairs.
I totally agree. People are rude and stupid.
We are
Rich and stupid
There have been years when chairs started to appear a week or more before the 4th. Problems sometimes arose when high winds blew them into the street and no one retrieved them.
It’s been a Ridgewood tradition for many years to put the chairs out for the Fourth of July Parade. That being said, there are people from other towns that for some reason or another don’t like it. Too bad. This year there was an increase in the theft of chairs, shame on them. Let the tradition continue!
Too bad, the village to pass an order and no more chairs put out before parade. They ruined it for everyone leaving chairs behind, leaving their garbage behind, chairs, blowing all around, moving to the street. This needs to stop immediately. This is not Alabama. go to that in another town they will throw it in the garbage.
Makes a town look like shit. Very cheap tacky looking. It’s time for a change, but the problem is known as the ball’s to stop it.
It’s a decades (century?) old tradition.
It is unique to Ridgewood that residents can place chairs unguarded overnight with complete confidence that they will be there in the morning.
I”THE PROBLEM” IS NOT THE TRADITION OF THE CHAIRS… IT’S THE CHANGING POPULATION
People moving into Ridgewood over the past 20-25 years ARE NOT of the same moral, religious or political leanings of those 40 years ago. They bring aspects of selfishness, narcissism and moral relativity resulting in more criminal behavior, less tolerance for their neighbors and more anger.
They selfishly and angrily WILL NOT TOLERATE their neighbors’ chairs ON THEIR LAWN.
Conversely, THEY WILL NOT REPECT their neighbors and WILL selfishly feel entitled to put their chairs (and tents!) on their neighbors’ lawns a WEEK before the parade – not just in the afternoon before the parade to be kept overnight.
It looks like garbage. Just get up and go to the parade on the Fourth. You don’t need to claim the curb.
Seems like a lazy and selfish tradition
What you people fail to understand is that Ridgewood is not Ridgewood anymore. It’s been years. All the Brooklyn hipsters and their ilk invaded long ago and this is a direct result. And to top it off you have Paulie Vaginitis and his ilk in the mix and what do you get? An shitehole of greed and corruption of epic per portions.
Good luck with that.
You’re gonna need it.
