Ridgewood Heat Advisory: Early Garbage Pickup & Safety Tips During Extreme Heat

Ridgewood NJ , due to dangerously high temperatures expected on Monday, July 28, and Tuesday, July 29, the Village of Ridgewood will be adjusting its sanitation schedule to protect workers from excessive heat.

Rear-yard garbage collection crews will arrive earlier than usual.
Curbside recycling (Areas 1 & 2) and yard waste collection (Areas A & B) will also begin early.

???? Important Reminder:

  • Please place all materials outside and ready for collection the night before your scheduled day.

  • Rear-yard garbage does NOT need to be placed at the curb, but it must be accessible by 5:00 AM.

Heat Advisory Details

⚠️ HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT

  • When: From 11 AM Monday through 8 PM Wednesday

  • Where: Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Hudson, and Union Counties

  • Heat Index: Upper 90s to low 100s

  • Risk: High temperatures & humidity can cause heat illnesses, especially for seniors, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.

How to Stay Safe in Extreme Heat

  • Stay indoors with air conditioning whenever possible.

  • ✅ If your home doesn’t have AC, visit a cooling center, library, or shopping mall.

  • Check on vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly.

  • Limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

  • ✅ If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

???? Heat Stroke is an Emergency!

  • Symptoms: Confusion, dizziness, nausea, and a rapid pulse.

  • If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cool location.

    Now we just need to supply them with ice and water, and Gatorade

  2. Yeah. My so called Forman is so dam cheap it’s making us sick. Get us water and ice when we need it. Come on man you are riding around in a a c suv, you couldn’t even do this job. We should have Formans and supervisors get on the back of these trucks to see how it is to do this job.
