RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The pride of Ridgewood is headed to the birthplace of American independence! In a massive win for the local arts community, the Ridgewood High School (RHS) Marching Band has been officially selected to perform in the Salute to Independence Semiquincentennial Parade in Philadelphia.
This “once-in-a-lifetime” event marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, and our students will be right at the center of the national spotlight on July 3, 2026.
One of Only 50 Bands Worldwide
Out of thousands of applicants across the globe, the Ridgewood High School Marching Band secured one of the strictly limited 50 spots for marching bands. This selection places RHS among the elite musical programs internationally, a testament to the rigorous training and talent fostered within the Ridgewood school district.
The Grandest Stage in America
The parade is being billed as the largest professionally produced semiquincentennial celebration in the country. It isn’t just a local stroll; it is a massive production featuring 250 distinct elements, including:
-
Military Units from across the armed forces.
-
Historical Processions representing the evolution of the U.S.
-
All 52 Miss America Titleholders representing every state and territory.
“To march through the very streets where our nation’s independence was born 250 years ago is a memory these students will carry with them forever,” said John Luckenbill, RHS Marching Band Director.
The Historic Route: Where to Watch
The parade kicks off at 11:00 AM on July 3, following an expanded route designed to showcase Philadelphia’s most iconic landmarks. If you are planning a trip to the City of Brotherly Love to cheer on the band, here is where you can catch the action:
-
Start: 5th and Chestnut Streets.
-
The Landmark: Passing directly in front of Independence Hall.
-
The Procession: Down Market Street and circling City Hall.
-
The Grand Finale: Along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and through Logan Circle.
Supporting the Journey
Preparing for a national event of this scale is no small feat. From logistics to extra rehearsals, the band will be working tirelessly over the coming months. The Ridgewood community is encouraged to follow the band’s journey and offer support as they prepare to represent New Jersey on the world stage.
