THE RECORD
RIDGEWOOD — The village has hired a new chief financial officer, who began in his new role Monday.
Bob Rooney will make $140,000 a year as Ridgewood’s CFO and the village’s first-ever parking utility director.
The parking authority position was created last year as a response to former staffer Thomas Rica’s theft of more than $460,000 in collected parking meter quarters.

$140,000 equates to 560,000 quarters. How many meters will it take to pay that salary?
When Gabbert was the Village Manager, he handled CFO and HR matters himself. Why does Roberta need such a huge staff? Mo money, mo money, mo money!
Hey 11:10 both dept’s he handled were a disaster!
Was it a half million dollar a year disaster? Because that’s what we’re going to be shelling out with salary, bennies, and pension contributions.
Correct 11:46 am and so was the rest of the village under his leadership or should I say lack of leadership.
Roberta is proclaimed to be a bargain with her $150K salary and she does not take benefits. But she is costing us PLENTY. How many positions has she added so far?
1:15 why not call and ask?
Cronies Cronies Cronies
Also lets not forget how much money the new big brother automated credit card meters will “SAVE” us…
A new parking director at $140,000 + $20,000 in benefits (on average) + $?? in “expenses, equipment and overhead” … and that’s not including the massive cost to purchase install and maintain the new meters (and the cost to remove the old meters).
Wow… what a bargain switching over to the new meters will be…. looks like Ricca’s $460k theft was the real bargain.
What is unique about Roberta is that she lets us know how wonderful she is. Leaves are picked up; garbage is collected; and she knows it is impossible to hire honest people for quarter counting. Is it
Now that is not an optimistic view of humanity.
I just read an ad in the herald for a part time code enforcement officer for the village of Ridgewood, so if no one retired they’re adding another part timer to the roster
What happened to Sanzari and Barker?
I’m sure there’s a car thrown-in, too.
2:15 – Roberta is also unique because she somehow thinks she is an elected official and she inserts her freakin’ opinion into every discussion, Roberta, you are supposed to provide information and then let the elected officials do the discussing. We did not elect you. If you want to be an active part of every discussion, why not run for office>
Okay, we have someone successful from the business world trying to give back… yes, she inserts her “freakin’ opinion” when she shouldn’t…she is not in on the job training when it comes to running things, but she has to learn the political ropes… would you rather have a civil service hack or political hack there… I think she is looking long term (e.g., strategic) independent of political whims. Our tax rate went up but pales against many towns in the county.
140k is cheap for a CFO. I make more than that, and I am two levels below CFO in my company.
I should have applied for the job. How hard could it be? You would never have to mount an anti takeover strategy, worry about FX hedging or any of the other hard stuff a real CFO has to do.
Would be nice to not commute into the city.
Hell, I’d have thrown in two free STEM classes at the high school…
Paul – our services are dropping and so are the amenities around town. We have to finance all of her new employees, who are being hired to cover her own job description. Human Resources Director – check, that is one of the Manager’s jobs.
well, if she’s wrong, she’ll be ridden out of town on a rail… I’m willing to wait to see how the restructure plays out… I think she’s on the right path, you can’t have jobs like overseeing HR as a part time hobby in a town like this and the approach on structuring the parking revenue organization makes sense… the budget lays it out pretty clearly…
yea and all the workers in town are making very little money and they can only work for 24 weeks, any thing more then that they go from part time to full time. what a mess. all the new laws are hurting every one.
9:36, nothing about how the Village and Manager did things in the past is relevant. She’s trying to change the culture to make it more customer focused and friendly for taxpayers. She’s also dealing with over 60% of the budget now in contractual, fixed costs, up from mid-40s just 10 years ago, which squeezes out other areas of the budget.
12:35
She is outsourcing her entire job, hiring this, that, and the next person to manage what are her contractual responsibilities. And she is overstepping her bounds incessantly by being part of every discussion instead of just providing needed information. We have five elected officials, not six.
do you have a copy of her contract?
9:51. Her job description is in the Village Code on the website
the part time workers is not working, is it.
