Ridgewood NJ, The Village of Ridgewood became one of many Bergen County NJ communities to honor law enforcement personnel by striping a main thoroughfare with a blue colored traffic line. Ridgewood’s “blue line” is located on North Maple Avenue, between Franklin Avenue and Linwood Avenue, right in front of Village Hall and Ridgewood Police Headquarters. Village officials gathered in front of Village Hall on Tuesday, 10/11 to commemorate the event.
Honestly I think this is a bad idea.
While I don’t think much of BLM, the blue line treatment is as racist a symbol as the confederate flag.
Racist??? Perhaps you could expand on your most ridiculous statement.
Great, why are Village taxpayer dollars being spent in favor of the blue wall of silence? How is this different from the BOE putting up signs saying “Vote yes”?
Great picture. Further evidence of the Mayor’s conflict(s) of interest when it comes to the RPD.
Wait one minute! Why can’t you paint the crosswalks that need attention, which is basically all of them? Do pedestrian lives not matter?
Re line the Dangerous Pedestrian Crossing in front of the Library before daylight savings dark afternoons and early winter Sunsets.
Nice Political Picture …bad Omen. Lots of real issues need Focus in year one if change is to happen. Good Luck leadership.
I thought the paint machine broke. I can’t get curbs painted in my neighborhood OR crosswalks but this gets done in a week????
Nice to see how radicalized and anti-cop RW residents have become
The school’s indoctrination program seems to be coming along nicely.
All in all, this is a nice move. A nice gesture showing respect for the police, and commitment to law and order. Even better, this calm, steady expression of patriotism and local pride took place well in advance of any cheap shots that may or may not be taken by those of our fellow countrymen having other, shall we say conflicting?, priorities. Hence any accusation of village leaders being “reactionary” would be unfounded. Great job!!
.
Next we’ll hear from Rurik Halaby that the traffic jam caused by this event amounts to Ridgewood’s version of Bridgegate.
9:51 AM: Could the Maple Ave. crosswalk between Kings and the library be painted in fluorescent or reflective paint? It’s very dangerous–anything that could be done to mitigate that would be a good idea.
I hate to litter this website with anything from BLM, but please go to THEIR website and see what there guiding principals.

Try not to laugh.
Please paint more visible crosswalks at the corner of S. Irving and Ridgewood Ave. Also, the crosswalks across Ridgewood Ave in front of the High School – 2 of them. Also, the crosswalks at the corner of Ridgewood Ave and Maple. Pedestrian lives matter, too. Consider this a fair warning that if you don’t do something about it, the next time someone gets hit on one of the crosswalks mentioned in this thread I will refer the poor soul back here and they can say you were officially “notified”.
No good deed goes unpunished here in the Village of Ridgewood.
Get to work we will try to tone down the Bitching. Yes that can happen we are behind the new Team criticism comes with the territory. Lots of catching up to do from the previous gang of neglect
Good work RW.
However, I would have preferred to see it in down RW avenue in the CBD and in front of RHS.
Hawthorne has a similar blue line on its main drag.
The two guys on the left look kind of like they were illuminated by an Angel. Just sayin……
YOU know we love the fire and police. but what about all the other town department,s . can,t they be recognized .
There is nothing wrong with showing support for our officers. However, there has been no attempt made to show support for the people of color living in our town or this area period; an acknowledgment that we as a community, the police department especially, have their back. While Ridgewood and it’s surrounding towns are very different from places like say Ferguson, the line painting is acknowledging the issue… but not the whole issue. I’m offended by it for this reason. Show some solidarity with the people fighting for those being senselessly murdered around the country and I won’t perceive this as an insult to them.
Well said, EJL. I completely agree. Painting a blue line in support of the RPD and police everywhere is a fine thing. But not showing support for the BLM at the same site imbues racist overtones to the undertaking. The RW Unitarian Society does fly a BLM banner along with its many other socially conscious shows of support for the greater RW community.
so we must support a terrorist group that aims to kill cops ?
