THE RECORD
RIDGEWOOD — A 55-year-old village man is accused of pulling a knife on two police officers and cutting them Tuesday afternoon after he agreed to be taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.
James Brown is being held at the Bergen Regional Medical Center in lieu of $50,000 bail, Ridgewood police Detective Chris McDowell said.
A maintenance worker at Brown’s Chestnut Street home called police around 2 p.m. after a dispute with Brown, McDowell said. Officers determined Brown needed to be taken to the hospital and he cooperated with them at first.
Then he pulled out a knife about the size of a Swiss Army knife, McDowell said. They struggled and subdued him after being cut.

“A maintenance worker at Brown’s Chestnut Street home ” A Ridgewood home owner allegedly did this. Wow this place is going down the tubs.
Another disgruntled taxpayer
If this happened on Beechwood I would agree with you but it’s Chestnut street, zoned commercial but there are a handful of legacy homes. None of which are nice or ever have been. I’m sure the taxes are still plenty though.
Doesn’t West Bergen Mental Health on some share house in that location?
Yes #3 I guess that if it doesn’t happen on the westside then it all in the getto.
It’s “ghetto” with an “h”, you improvident lack wit, and fyi, I live on the east side of the tracks. Substitute S. Pleasant for Beechwood if it makes you happy.
Now good day to you, sir. I SAID. GOOD. DAY.
🙂
Sorry for the misspelling. Thanks for bring it to my attention. Im sure it made your day to point out someones mistake you improvident lack wit. Your statement that it would mean more if it happened on Beechwood shows your true colors. What difference does it matter where it happened.?
Sir.
My point is merely thus: there are parts of Ridgewood where this type of event does not surprise me much. There are other parts of Ridgewood, e.g. Sommerville or Crest road, where this type of behavior on the part of a homeowner would be quite out of the ordinary. Instead of stabbing the arresting officer, the suspect would simply yell to the au pair: “Get Ira (his family lawyer) down to the RPD station immediately”.
So I respond to #1: no, this singular data point doesn’t establish the trend he posited. I.e. Ridgewood isn’t going down the tubes. Take heart!
Also, always happy to help others better their grasp on our chosen language.
Good day.
Wow am I a dick or what?
What stupidity by all of the above.
Thanks for the help. #7 and yes you are. Just kidding.
The psycho is lucky he wasn’t in NYC. He would have been shot dead on the spot, the end.
I have no problem whatsoever with NYPD officer shooting dead anyone who pulls a knife on them, be he pulling it intentionally or due to some mental defect. The way I see, that’s one less dangerous crazy on the streets.
Suicide by Cop.
Its a West Bergen Group home.
This is why we need an MRAP.
What is an MRAP
MRAP is a military assault vehicle. Gets cop types all erect…
