RIDGEWOOD — Votes by village officials on zoning changes that would clear the path for high-density, multifamily housing downtown will likely be delayed until January while officials gather more information about the controversy-raising proposal’s potential impacts.

Also, Mayor Paul Aronsohn said Monday. the public will be allowed additional sessions to comment on the five introduced zoning ordinances at the council’s Dec. 9 public meeting. The changes would increase the number of allowable housing units per acre from 12 to 35 in four zones in the central business district.

The Village Council, however, won’t vote on them that night. It will await results of a yet-to-be-commissioned financial impact study, which Aronsohn has called the “missing piece of the puzzle.” The study “won’t answer every question, and it may leave a lot of questions unanswered that we need to address,” he told the council at a meeting this month. But at least the questions would be raised, he said.

  1. NO to 35 units per acre it is too much.

  2. “Also, Mayor Paul Aronsohn said Monday. the public will be allowed additional sessions to comment on the five introduced zoning ordinances at the council’s Dec. 9 public meeting.”

Hey Paulie: In June, Boyd Loving suggested that having more than one session for public comment was prudent and you told him to sit down and shut up. Now all of a sudden having addition sessions is a good idea because it’s your idea? What a riot.

  3. And what the public needs to say on Dec. 9 is that we need ALL the studies done. How can you commission just a financial impact study when you don’t have all the inputs? Projection of number of school children, infrastructure updates, etc will all impact financials. Duh. The only data to date was provided by the developers and based on towns quite dissimilar to Ridgewood.

Truly the lack of due diligence by our own planning board and lack of intellectual curiosity from three council members is disturbing to say the least.

  4. Yes, 10:06,ALL of the studies that you voted on must be done. All of them. Can’t go back on your vote.

  5. In-f’ing-believable. The article says they MAY do additional studies. They voted by 4-1 to do those studies, ALL of them. Aronsohn is such a liar, such a total and complete liar.

  6. The financial study was one look at the project. I still find it hard to believe that 12m parking will pay for itself with meter money.

There are many other financial impacts that were not evaluated – school, water, emergency services are just a few.

They touted the fact that 50 cents an hour would cover 12 million in debt. I think that their projections were overly optimistic.

  7. Don’t forget 10:45 the Mayor’s hand picked Finical Advisory Board said to” Build it Big” it will pay for itself . Just read the letters to the editor in the Ridgewood New today . Who are we to question these captains of industry. Im suprised that the Library Board hasn’t written a letter but there time.

  8. Why pay less when you can pay more?

  9. It’s a Runnaway Train Folks and its heading for your block soon..Grab the Kiddies and your wallets..gonna need both when you have to Sell,,

  10. “Why pay less when you can pay more?”

In keeping with the above theme, there is not a Shop Rite in the Village, but there is a Kings and a Whole Foods.

  11. ALERT – the article has changed slightly. It is in the paper today, and differs somewhat from the link to the online article provided here. Looks like Aronsohn has this reporter in his pocket, too, editing every last word of every article. Meet the new Chris Harris.

  12. By chance is this not manipulation and back dealing..

  13. 12:59 good one.
