On Wednesday night, the Village Council revisited the notion of a non-binding referendum for a municipal garage on Hudson Street and also debated the merits of having a similar vote on the plans for the North Walnut Street redevelopment zone since it could mark a significant change to downtown Ridgewood.

The village is in the midst of doing environmental work at Hudson Street while waiting for results from a parking consultant on a recommendation of a traditional or automated parking garage. A $500,000 bond ordinance for pre-construction activities has been introduced and will be subject to a public hearing on July 15.

Meanwhile, officials are currently working with Kensington Senior Development, which has pitched an assisted living facility for the Town Garage property at Franklin Avnue and North Walnut Street. The village is in the process of reviewing financial information from the developer.

  1. No need for any more delay, Build a simple ride on parking deck that will increase the use for many more cars and easier to maintain and service.
    Beware of the “self promoters.

  2. Here comes the summer boondoggles taxpayers will be on the hook for more monstrosities like a outsized underutilized parking deck building for the restaurant owners POLITICOS.will make Valley expansion discussions look like the minor leagues. Public private partnership test for any garage deck a must or taxpayers will pay a very high price in Public Debt bonding of a non performing Eyesore .we should STOP THIS MISTAKE NOW.Pave existing roads now instead.

  3. Nj newspaper north reports quote.

“I think we’re at such a wonderful juncture right now, it would be wrong on many levels to put it to ballot,” Hauck said.

Says it all. Taxpayers sighted as dunces

  4. Why isn’t this a public-private partnership between the Village and business owners in the CBD? Taxpayers should not be 100% liable for all of the inevitable cost overruns and graft this garage will entail. At least business owners will watch the costs, unlike the Village engineer. Paul and Albert, time to wake up and do this with business owners contributing to the cost. Otherwise you lose ALL of your support, done.

  5. Put it on top of the lot across from the side of the Post Office. Would serve the entire CBD, not just one area. All you really need is 75-125 extra spaces.

  6. Great Point. Original idea of restaurant district deck on a one way side Street across fm a historic Church likely means restricted no street parking on that one way and a light restricting eyesore built like other monstrosities in englewood morristown etc .deck snow clearance requires alot of maintenance and service access .whole concept of this deck is poorly justified to jump start new restaurant expansions. Basically an evening trade only

  7. Across from the post office? Wrong…that’s not central.
Stop complaining about Gwenn and the other douche bags…you were asleep during the voting process so this is what you get when others are organized. Status quo in Ridgewood and the 3 amigos et al like it that way.
This IS a public-private partnership between the business owners and the village…and as usual your paying for it…cost overruns and graft included.
What makes you think otherwise? That’s not how Ridgewood operates. 90% of Ridgewood doesn’t give a shit. As long as Johnny is in the “wonderful” school system and graduates who cares? Then the “for sale” sign goes up and the process repeats itself. It’s a good scam and lots of townies are making a killing off of it and your to stupid to notice, don’t care or simply don’t understand what’s going on right under your nose.

  8. I don’t understand the point of a referendum on something that has been decided–with a half-million-dollar “study” to start already approved. WHY?

  9. build it big. and they will fill it up.
