Ridgewood NJ, a male driver was taken into custody by Ridgewood Police Department Patrol Division officers early Thursday afternoon, May 1, following a single-vehicle collision near Van Emburgh Avenue and Orville Place.
According to authorities, the driver of an older model 4-door Buick sedan was traveling northbound on Van Emburgh Avenue when he allegedly veered off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, refused medical assistance at the scene.
Suspected DUI and Drug Possession
Following the crash, patrol officers administered a field sobriety test, which the driver failed to complete successfully. Officers then took him into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
During a search of the vehicle, police also recovered an unspecified quantity of a known controlled dangerous substance, further escalating the situation. The vehicle was subsequently towed to an impound yard, and the driver was transported to Ridgewood Police Headquarters for observation and formal processing.
Investigation Ongoing
As of Thursday evening, no further details regarding charges or the specific substance recovered had been released. The Ridgewood Police Department is continuing its investigation.
Motorists are reminded to always drive responsibly and avoid operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
