Ridgewood Police : Ice & Snow – Remove It Before You Go

Remember to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof. It’s the law in New Jersey! Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25 to $75 for each offense, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle. If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, motorists face fines of $200 to $1,000 for each offense.

  1. Just who do you expect to enforce this?

  2. It is not easy to enforce. The law was enacted as an emotional reaction to the death of a very nice man in 1996. it is very dangerous to drive with ice on your car, but really, how do they enforce this? Pull over every other car on the road?

  3. just saw a police car this morning (wed) covered with snow…

  4. how about enforcing the law requiring inconsiderate lazy neighbors to shovel their sidewalks.? we shouldn’t have to call it in. its obvious

  5. How about “enforcing the law” to have “the workers” pick up the leaves (all of the leaves – not the half-assed-I-don’t-care-it’s-good-enough-to-do-the-job-late-and-incompletely job that they currently do) so they are not plowed all over the street by the snow plows and get frozen into a slippery icy surface.

  6. what about slowing down. this past storm people are flying around.

  7. I’m going to paint a “Ridgewood Village Christmas Card’.. er… sorry.. a ‘holiday card’… nice home..candles burning in the windows…. holiday lights…festivities…. light snow all over the place… and leaves pushed up onto the white snow covered lawn desicrating the whole darn scenic view! hhahahha

  8. Cops drive around in snow covered vehicles while talking on their cellphones.

    I’d buy it

  10. It can be enforced by the car being pulled over just like for speeding, cell phone, etc. If a cop sees this pull them over. Regardless, people are very lazy about removing the ice/snow esp the SUV’s. Use a broom or get a step stool – figure it out. These are the very people who will be screaming when they are hit by a block of flying ice to the windshield. No one cares about anyone else anymore. Its all about what is the easiest thing for me. What a shame.
