Ridgewood NJ, Readers report Ridgewood PD out in force ticketing Media vehicles. A reader reports ” I watched the cops give out several tickets on cottage to news vans parked in front of the boe building i guess the cops saw this as a money making opportunity”

While others and we suspect media outlets criticize police actions ; “Do the Ridgewood police have nothing better to do than to harass news media organizations trying to cover the event by bullying them about parking near the high school? Get a real job boys!

  1. I wounder if you would feel the same way if the news media was trying to get a story about your kid.

  2. The cops don’t get money from tix it goes in the general fund and the village scoffs it up. There is no reason the media should not get a ticket for something the general public would be summoned for. Again anti cop bias. The cops ticket the high school area everyday. Imagine the outcry if the news media got away with violations the students and general public were cited for. The cops are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

  3. If they are parked illegally then maybe they deserved the summons and if it brings in revenue so be it. The news media have lawyers to argue any issues they may have with this. Also your headline is nothing more than sensationalism are you trying to compete with Fox news.

  4. Ticketing vultures on a slow news day – I don’t have a problem with that!

  5. I say good job.

  6. This post prompts me to question whether this is the proper time to for Village Council members to review the existing parking restrictions on streets surrounding RHS. Frankly, I think the current restrictions are a bit over the top.

Suggested changes, which would reduce the amount of policing required: 1) vehicles with commercial plates and commercial markings should be allowed at all times (except overnight) – it is absurd to that a contractor can’t park while he/she is working on my house; 2) residents on those streets within “no parking zone” should be issued stickers for one vehicle per household – this would reduce the number of widened driveways, which translates into more flooding due to more paved surfaces; 3) streets included should be re-evaluated – would students be likely to park on Brookside south of Spring?

The wide area now encompassed is just ridiculous. Just another money making opportunity for the PD and hassle for residents in the area. Let’s fix it now!

  7. What a great idea!

Let’s break the media’s balls then maybe they’ll write a nice story about Ridgewood. Or better yet, maybe they will just go away if we threaten to tow their vehicles.

Goes without saying that there was no Harvard grad consulted before the cops were sent out in force. You just can’t make this shit up.

Whose cockamamie idea was it to cash in on the action; Gabbert’s?

  8. Seriously……..is the media exempt from parking laws? I didn’t know.

  9. So vehicles are illegally parked….which is something residents complain about, and the cops are now Bullying the media?? I wasn’t aware that news trucks had special permission to park illegally. HAHAHAHAHA Whoever wrote this is a fool!!

  10. The cops ticket the high school area every day. the money from the fines goes to the general fund which is used by the village overall not just the cops. I read this headline and in my mind it just goes to show another example of anti cop bias. Can you imagine the excoriation of the police if they had allowed the media to get away with parking violations that students and other members of the general population were cited for. It wouldn’t surprise me if the very same people who were critisizing the cops for ticketing would be critisizing them for not issuing. Yet on this blog it makes headline news.

  11. How come the 2 vans that park on cottage street in front of the stop and shop EVERY DAY… ALL DAY… NEVER get tickets?

  12. If your watching two vans Everyday…ALL DAY…..then you need a hobby.

  13. Yeah #12, like watching three vans everyday all day

  14. call the officer in charge and ask that the van receive a summons or at least be marked for time mayby the oic knows something about it already.
