RIDGEWOOD — Construction of a controversial ramp at Graydon Pool remains delayed while state environmental officials evaluate its impact on the historic nature of the pool.
While some residents argue that the village is morally obligated to build a ramp, others fear the concrete structure will alter the character of the 1920s-era pool.
Several residents again reiterated those arguments at a special meeting this week called by the state Department of Environmental Protection as part of the Historic Preservation Office’s review of the project.
The ramp at Graydon Pool was approved by the Village Council late last year, after more than two years of debate.
The project was supposed to be finished by summer but now, officials anticipate work won’t begin until fall.
The 40-foot ramp is required to bring the 2.6-acre pool, which has a sand bottom, into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Why not just close it.
Closing would satisfy those Status Quo, do nothing, save the money people.
They don’t look for solutions to improve memberships. Those lost 4,500 memberships will never come back, till the Village and its residents solve the problem of a redesign that will bring them all back with a plan .
If not, shut it down! This has been going on now since 1969.
Dom is still at it, put out a silver alert
#3 Do you have a little more detail as to what happen at the meeting?
Why wasn’t it on TV… ? Who spoke, and was the meeting just a show and blow self serving Village presentation? Come on Boyd, we/you can do better than that.
Graydon should comply with ADA requirements like Crestwood Lake in Allendale has: They should purchase Mobi Chairs that allow handicapped individuals to enter the water and either get out and swim or remain in chair and float. In this way Graydon retains its swimming room in the deep end without dimishing the already small space with a huge ramp that goes out 40 feet. Also the concrete entrance to ramp will replace the sand on the shore. which to many Graydon users, including myself, is unacceptable. We want a natural environment and a natural sand bottom pool. The concrete patio is already an unnecessary eyesore and a diminishing of Graydon’s natural beauty and charm. Hey, I am used to bringing my lunch before patio was built. Much healthier. Mobi chairs are the way to go.
What you say (re: mobi chairs) makes way too much sense for Ridgewood to implement probably because it does not advance the correct agenda or line the correct pockets.
