Ridgewood NJ, Many Ridgewood residents felt the post-election let down yesterday . Months of acrimonious campaigning has left people feeling blue if they came out on the short end of the vote yesterday . Some wore black to symbolize a funeral . Another Ridgewood resident even offered free hugs to those who were in inconsolable pain .

Ridgewood like much of Bergen County was split about 60/40 in favor of the loser Hillary Clinton and in many ways Ridgewood is the stereotypical Clinton supporting town.

One reader emailed the Ridgewood blog,   “I know you must be elated over the election results. I am happy for you but as a progressive and a woman, I am so sad.  I think you are doing our town a great service with The Blog”

GOP President-elect Donald Trump pulled off one of the biggest electoral upset in decades Tuesday evening, causing Hillary Clinton supporters around the country and in Ridgewood to cry.

It seems that many of Clinton’s supporters may have shared the feeling Clinton expressed in late September when she wondered aloud why she wasn’t ahead of Trump by 50 percent.

As for the staff of the Ridgewood blog we enjoyed a quite afternoon.

  1. I really do not understand why people would feel so depressed over an election. The people spoke and one candidate won. Will this vilified new president really be having such a negative impact on people’s lives? Or is it just like a sport, your team lost a final game and you’re hung over a couple of days! As for myself I enjoyed the election night. Democrats got what they deserved. Their pushy attitude, intimidation of Trump sympathizers (or better said intimidation of those who didn’t like Clinton) and especially the media bias in tandem with the “celebrity” support pushed many independents over the fence. I bet this is what happened to millions who decided to vote the last minute. Don’t blame Trump for winning, blame Clinton and yourself. You pushed many independent people to vote for what they perceived as the lesser evil. In addition the democrats with their stupid agenda did a great disservice to our country by handing full control of our government to the republicans. And this is worrying. However the best outcome is that both parties are in disarray and I hope they understand that they need a major revamp if they want to get the support of the people.

  2. I lost so-called friends for expressing my opinion during the election season. I said Trump would win based on the crowds that he attracted to his rallies. The fact that Hillary needed celebs at her rallies and drew fewer people was an indication that she was not the most popular likely to win candidate.

So , I’m pretty smart and everybody hated what I said. I am smarter than the pollsters and the pundits, but get no money for my smartness hence I am stupid.

  3. After 8 years, I can finally stop crying… ..

  4. I believe most Trump supporters fail to understand the full impact of what is about to happen. We are going to turn backward in important ways, possibly irreversibly. Life will be much worse for our children and grandchildren. Running the country based on money and ego will destroy us. Did Trump not understand that Putin wanted him to win because he knew it would weaken the United States?

    1. I would suggest you get yourself better educated on policies and what is going on outside of the “bubble”

  5. 10:38 must be impossible for us to understand, being nowhere close to as smart and sophisticated as you.

  6. @10.38AM. Please help me understand the full impact of Trump’s election. I have 2 kids and I will appreciate your wisdom and insight into the future so I can hopefully move my family to Canada if there is still space available after our “celebrities” move there. TIA

  7. Dems need to look within instead of blaming Trump. They did not show up at the polls.

  8. Young people marching with ” He’s not my President” written on their foreheads . No wonder our enemies think we are weak and they are right. If he is not your president then they should go to Canada maybe Whoopee and Cher can give them a lift.

  9. What a bunch of weak babies and pansies.

  10. I am deeply saddened and worried that Trump won but I am MUCH MORE upset with the people protesting this result. Are they protesting democracy itself? Protesting the results of a fair democratic election is an abomination.

Trump hasnt done anything yet. Hold your protests until you have an issue to protest. The time to act was 2 weeks ago when you could have been knocking doors and making calls. Now the people have spoken.

If you are upset by what you think might happen, then find a way to help on the people you think will be hurt. Sponsor an immigrant or refugee, work at a soup kitchen, help at a shelter for gay youth, help with jobs training programs, heck go to your local Democratic headquarters and offer to stuff flyers. But DO SOMETHING besides taking a selfie of you burning a flag.

  11. Good for you Brian.

  12. I’m deeply worried for you Brian – Do you have a safe space to go to?

  13. Why a “Shelter for gay youth” Brian? How about just a regular old shelter. No, we can’t have that. You insist on getting your agenda out there no matter what the channel or forum. Deeply saddened…yea right. Well guess what? I’m Extremely happy that Trump put an end to the criminal enterprise that is the Clinton machine and for you, well, your just another brick in the wall….

  14. Our country was saved from the brink of the liberal progressive abyss.
    Amen!

  15. For commenters saying “the people spoke” let’s remember that Hillary won the popular vote.

  16. “For commenters saying “the people spoke” let’s remember that Hillary won the popular vote.”
    .
    you are right…
Clinton won 0.0022% more of the vote – a few hundred thousand out of 120 million.
but Trump won 50% more states and 35% more electoral votes
    .
so, yea,,, the people spoke and overwhelmingly selected Trump
but you keep clinging to your hate and popular votes…
    .

  17. “For commenters saying “the people spoke” let’s remember that Hillary won the popular vote.”

For two reasons, California and New York. I doubt he spent a dollar campaigning in either state and if he had he probably would have won the popular vote as well. As our system is set up there is no need for him to spend time, money, or energy there but if the system were different he would have. Furthermore, from executive orders to how the election is decided you cannot change the rules as you see fit without backlash. Be careful what you wish for as the republicans now control 2 branches of government with a strong ability to grab the 3rd shortly…
